Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner review: original or Toner Plus?
Updated October 22, 2026
Buy the original Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner if you want a watery, nonsticky hydration layer you can pat on in one or several coats, and move to the 400ml bottle once you know you like it. Choose Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus instead if your face still feels tight after a watery toner: it lists the same five hyaluronic acid materials but adds two thickening gums, betaine and seven botanical extracts, which give it an ampoule-like body.
Neither bottle is a moisturizer, and neither exfoliates. Both are hydration steps that sit between cleanser and serum or cream, so the real choice is texture, how much liquid you want to layer, and how much you want to spend per bottle.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested either toner; texture descriptions are the brand's, and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What's in Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner
The original Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner, 200ml is a short, 20-ingredient formula. The first ten ingredients are water, propanediol, pentylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, sodium hyaluronate, trehalose, caprylyl glycol, panthenol, sodium PCA and butylene glycol.
Most of those are humectants, ingredients that attract water and hold it in the top layer of skin. Propanediol, pentylene glycol and butylene glycol are light glycols that also help the liquid spread, while 1,2-hexanediol and caprylyl glycol support preservation. Trehalose is a sugar humectant, sodium PCA is one of the components of skin's own natural moisturizing factor, and panthenol is provitamin B5.
The five hyaluronic acid forms are sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer. "Hydrolyzed" means the molecule has been broken into smaller pieces; the crosspolymer is a version linked into a network that sits on the surface as a light film. The product pages we checked don't publish a percentage for the complex, and no pH is printed.
The rest of the list is birch juice, purslane extract, glycerin, hollyhock root extract, aloe leaf extract and beta-glucan, a polysaccharide that helps skin feel hydrated. Isntree describes the texture as lightweight and watery with a nonsticky finish, aimed at dry to normal skin.
It costs $11.99 for 200ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026. The same formula comes in an Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner 400ml bottle for $18.99, and the ingredient lists on the two pages match.
What is the difference between Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner and Toner Plus?
The difference is body, not the hyaluronic acid count. Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus, 200ml lists the same five hyaluronic acid materials as the original, but it's built to be thicker.
Its first ten ingredients are water, propanediol, pentylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, sodium PCA, sodium hyaluronate, caprylyl glycol, cellulose gum, trehalose and panthenol. Cellulose gum and, further down, biosaccharide gum-1 are the texture change: both thicken a liquid and give it more slip, and biosaccharide gum-1 also works as a humectant. Sodium PCA moves higher up the list, and betaine, another humectant, is added.
Plus also carries seven botanical extracts the original doesn't: centella asiatica, Baikal skullcap root, Japanese knotweed root, licorice root, green tea leaf, chamomile flower and rosemary leaf. It ends with ethylhexylglycerin, a conditioning ingredient that supports the preservative system. The original stays the shorter, simpler list.
Isntree positions Plus as the thicker member of its hyaluronic toner family, for dry, tight-feeling skin, and says it can go on as a second layer over the lighter bottle. Our product page describes an essence texture that pours slowly and lingers a moment instead of running off. It costs $14.99 for 200ml, checked October 2026, and Sleepy Hello stocks it only in that size.
A quick way to decide:
Pick the original if you like a toner that feels close to water, you plan to layer several coats, or you use cotton pads.
Pick Plus if a watery toner seems to vanish and your skin feels tight again within minutes, or you'd rather apply one hydrating layer than three.
Pick the original if you prefer fewer plant extracts in a formula; Plus adds seven.
One naming trap: Isntree also makes an Ultra-Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Toner, 300ml, $13.99, checked October 2026. It's a separate formula that lists 13 hyaluronic acid forms in a 21,000 ppm complex, with sea water near the top and a watery texture that our page positions for oily and combination skin. Older reviews of "the Isntree hyaluronic toner" sometimes mix up the three, so check the exact name before you compare.
Is Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner good for dry skin?
Yes, as a hydration layer, but it won't do the whole job on its own. Dry skin and dehydrated skin aren't quite the same: dehydrated skin is short on water and feels tight, while dry skin also produces less oil. A humectant toner answers the water part.
Both toners are almost entirely humectants, with no oils or butters. Humectants hold water but don't seal it in, so dry skin still needs a moisturizer with emollients (softening oils and esters) and occlusives (ingredients that sit on the surface and slow evaporation) on top. The Plus product page says as much: it's a hydration step, not a moisturizer.
Our take for dry skin is Plus first if your face feels tight soon after washing, and the original if you'd rather build hydration in thin coats. Follow either with a cream such as Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Moist Cream, 100ml, $14.99, which lists shea butter, apricot kernel oil, argan kernel oil and safflower seed oil. Combination skin that only feels tight on the cheeks may prefer the oil-free Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Aqua Gel Cream, 100ml, $11.99.
In dry air, put your moisturizer on while the toner layer is still slightly damp rather than waiting until your face feels bare. That keeps the hydration you just added under something that slows evaporation.
How do you use Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner?
Use it straight after cleansing, morning or evening, then follow with serum and moisturizer. Isntree's directions for the original are to put an appropriate amount on a cotton pad, wipe it gently across the skin, then pat the toner in until absorbed. The 400ml page adds that clean hands work too, and that dry-feeling areas can take a second thin layer.
For Plus, the directions are to sweep it on with a cotton pad and press the remainder in, with the note that palms use less of a fluid this thick. Allow about a minute before the next step, and add a second pass only where skin still feels tight. With either bottle, keep it away from the eye area and stop if your skin becomes uncomfortable; Isntree suggests a patch test before the first full use if your skin reacts easily.
Several thin coats or a serum?
Add coats if you only want more of the same hydration; add a serum if you want something the toner doesn't contain. There are two ways to get more out of the original:
Thin coats. Pour a small amount into your palms, press it over your face, let it mostly absorb, and repeat once or twice. Stop when your skin feels comfortable rather than counting layers.
A short toner pack. The 400ml page suggests saturating a thin cotton pad and leaving it briefly on dry areas such as the cheeks. Lift it off before it dries.
Switching to Plus gives you the same humectants in a thicker form, so it's the simpler swap if three coats feel like too much work. A serum makes more sense when you want a different ingredient. Isntree's Hyaluronic Acid Water Essence, 50ml, $18.99, checked October 2026, lists eight hyaluronic acid forms plus niacinamide, adenosine and oat kernel extract, with directions to pat two or three drops into the skin. If layers start to roll or pill, use fewer of them or wait longer between steps.
A simple routine with either toner
Cleanser.
The original toner in one to three thin coats, or Toner Plus in one coat with a second pass where tight.
Optional serum, such as the Hyaluronic Acid Water Essence.
Moisturizer: the Moist Cream for dry skin, the Aqua Gel Cream for combination skin.
Morning only: sunscreen as the last step. Isntree's Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel, 50ml, $13.99 and labeled SPF50+ PA++++, comes from the same hyaluronic line.
Is Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner fragrance-free?
Yes, going by the ingredient lists: neither the original nor Plus includes fragrance (parfum), and neither lists an essential oil. The original's product page states it's alcohol-free, and the Plus page says no ethanol appears in its formula. The 1,2-hexanediol near the top of both lists is a glycol used for texture and preservation, not drying alcohol.
If you avoid plant extracts as well as fragrance, the original is the cleaner choice. Plus includes chamomile flower and rosemary leaf extracts among its seven botanicals; they're listed as extracts rather than fragrance, but some people with easily irritated skin prefer to skip them. Both formulas contain birch juice, purslane, hollyhock root and aloe.
Is the 400ml Isntree toner better value?
Yes, if you already know the original suits you. At Sleepy Hello prices checked October 2026, the 200ml original is $11.99, about 6.0 cents per ml, and the 400ml is $18.99, about 4.7 cents per ml. Two 200ml bottles would cost $23.98, so the big bottle saves $4.99, roughly 21%.
Plus is $14.99 for 200ml, about 7.5 cents per ml, and isn't stocked in a 400ml size. For comparison, the Ultra-Low Molecular toner at $13.99 for 300ml also works out to about 4.7 cents per ml.
How quickly you'll go through a bottle depends on your method. Cotton pads soak up more liquid than palms, and the multi-coat habit uses more per routine, so twice-daily layering is where the 400ml pays off. For a first purchase, the 200ml is the lower-commitment way to find out whether you like the texture.
Does Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner contain alcohol?
Not drying alcohol. The product page states it's alcohol-free, and the list has no ethanol or alcohol denat; the glycols on it are humectants and preservation aids.
Can you use Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner every day?
Yes. The directions cover morning and evening use, and neither formula lists an exfoliating acid such as AHA, BHA or PHA.
Can you layer Toner Plus over the original?
Yes. Isntree says Plus can go on as a second layer over the lighter toner. Apply the original first, then Plus only where you want more.
Is Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner good for oily skin?
It can be, since it contains no oils or butters and Isntree describes a nonsticky finish. Oily skin will usually get on better with the watery original than with Plus, or with the Ultra-Low Molecular toner that our page positions for oily and combination skin.
Who should skip Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner?
Skip it if you want an exfoliating toner, if you're hoping it will replace a moisturizer, or if the toner you use now already leaves your skin comfortable.
Most people need one: the Dive-In Toner ($17.99, 300ml) for normal to oily skin, the ceramide Skin Booster ($15.99, 200ml) for dry skin. Serum goes after.
COSRX Propolis Synergy Toner ($17.99, 280 ml) is a good pick for dry or dehydrated skin; the Light Ampoule suits one-step routines. Skip if bee-allergic.
