Anua Heartleaf 77 toner review: the current US bottle
Updated September 8, 2026
If you dislike the coated feeling of a milky toner, Anua Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner is worth a closer look. Its main attraction is light, watery hydration after cleansing. It makes more sense as a texture preference than as a purchase driven by promises of clear skin.
There's also a bottle detail worth noticing: the current US product photo says Heartleaf 77 + Hyaluron. Older reviews often show a different label and ingredient list. This review uses the current official US listing, checked September 8, 2026, and explains where older experiences stop being a reliable guide. We haven't tested the toner ourselves or scored customer reviews.
Which Heartleaf 77 are you buying?
The product reviewed here is Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner, sold on Anua's US website in 250 mL and 500 mL sizes. The photographed bottle above is labeled 250 mL, even though the shop uses that image for both size options. Check the selected size rather than relying on the picture alone.
Two similarly named products belong to different steps:
Heartleaf 80% Moisture Soothing Ampoule is a separate face ampoule. Its own directions place it after toner. The higher number doesn't make it a stronger version of this toner. Official ampoule.
Heartleaf 77 B3 Zinc Soothing Serum, shown on Anua's Hong Kong site, is a serum. Its claims and formula shouldn't be borrowed to describe the US liquid toner. We aren't confirming US availability of that regional listing. Separate B3 Zinc serum.
A Heartleaf range name is useful for finding a shelf, but the complete product name is what tells you which bottle a review covers.
What the current formula contains
The US ingredient panel starts with Houttuynia cordata flower/leaf/stem water, followed by water, 1,2-hexanediol, glycerin and betaine. It also lists panthenol, centella, chamomile, burdock and other extracts, followed by several hyaluronic-acid ingredients, including sodium hyaluronate and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid. Full current ingredient list.
Anua describes this as 77% heartleaf with hyaluron. That is a botanical-ingredient claim, not a statement that 77% of the bottle is a purified soothing active. The page doesn't provide a standardized concentration of a particular heartleaf compound. Nor does the number tell you how much more useful it will be than a toner with a lower botanical percentage.
The brand's image calls the first ingredient flower/leaf/stem “extract,” while its text panel calls it “water.” Both support heartleaf positioning; they don't resolve the raw material's specification. If an ingredient distinction matters because of a known allergy or a previous reaction, use the package list and ask the brand to clarify.
The formula is labeled fragrance-free. The current list doesn't include niacinamide, salicylic acid or glycolic acid. You should therefore approach it as a hydrating toner, without expecting the work of a dedicated niacinamide serum or exfoliating acid product.
Why older ingredient lists look different
Kaori's March 2024 review records Houttuynia cordata extract at 77%, along with sugar-cane, grape and apple extracts. Those three fruit/plant entries do not appear in the current US text list, which instead includes several forms of hyaluronic acid.
That establishes a difference between the two published lists. It doesn't establish an exact reformulation date, or prove which version a particular retailer will send. Someone repurchasing a bottle they loved in 2024 should compare the actual back label before assuming the experience will be identical.
It also makes old exfoliation explanations unhelpful. An extract being related to a plant from which an acid can be obtained is not the same as a finished toner containing a verified exfoliating dose of that acid.
How much hydration should you expect?
Anua describes fresh, lightweight hydration. That is a useful starting point if thick toners feel sticky underneath the rest of your skincare. It is less persuasive if you're hoping one watery step will replace a moisturizer that keeps dry skin comfortable.
The published experiences help explain the appeal, but they need context. Kaori found the older toner watery and sufficiently hydrating for her normal-to-dry skin. Beauty By Daz's review likewise describes a very light texture and suggests a richer serum or cream for very dry skin. That article is from a retailer selling the product, and its wider microbiome claims aren't supported by evidence we could verify.
Pulse Nigeria's three-month review describes a watery feel in a routine that also included salicylic acid, other serums, moisturizer and sunscreen. Its reported changes in spots and oiliness can't tell us what the toner caused on its own. These are individual accounts involving older purchases, not proof of how the current US formula will behave for you.
Before ordering, name the problem in ordinary terms. “My moisturizer is enough, but I enjoy a light layer underneath” is a reasonable reason to explore this toner. “My cheeks still feel tight despite several toners” points toward reviewing the cleanser and moisturizer first. Another layer of liquid may leave the same problem waiting underneath.
Reading the soothing and oil-control claims
The current brand page contains clinical-testing language, a sebum-reduction chart and consumer-assessment results. There is more detail than a simple “clinically tested” badge: the consumer-assessment image describes 21 participants aged 15–38 in a four-week study. A separate graphic reports a 49.55% reduction in sebum after two weeks and names the Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences, with study dates in March–April 2024. Anua's testing graphics and footnotes.
Those are the brand's disclosed summaries. We haven't reviewed the full report, independently repeated the measurements or established the result a typical buyer should expect. A small group agreeing that their skin felt soothed is also a different finding from proving treatment of acne, rosacea or an allergic reaction.
For a purchase decision, the evidence supports investigating the toner for its cosmetic hydration and feel. It doesn't justify promising that breakouts will stop, dark marks will fade or every reactive skin will tolerate it. “Non-comedogenic” and “low irritation” on the page don't remove the need to notice your own response.
Using it without making your routine complicated
Anua's directions allow fingertips or a cotton pad after cleansing, followed by gentle patting. It may be used morning and evening. You can then continue with your usual serum, if you use one, and moisturizer. There is no requirement to add a matching Anua ampoule. Official toner directions.
Hands are a straightforward starting point if you only want a leave-on layer. A pad may be convenient, but rubbing harder doesn't make the toner more effective. Don't mix it into sunscreen or use it to dilute another product; apply your products as their labels direct.
Introduce it before experimenting with several layers or a toner-soaked mask. Keep the rest of your routine familiar so you can judge whether your skin feels better with this addition, and whether makeup still sits as you like.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends trying a new skincare product on a small area twice a day for seven to ten days before wider use. If a reaction occurs, gently wash it off and stop. Seek professional advice for severe or unresolved symptoms. This home check isn't a guarantee against later reactions. AAD guidance.
If several products already sting, our simple routine for sensitive skin is a more useful starting point than collecting more soothing toners.
The 250 mL or the 500 mL bottle?
At our September 8 check, Anua's US shop listed 250 mL for $23 and 500 mL for $34.50, before shipping and tax. That is $9.20 per 100 mL for the smaller size and $6.90 per 100 mL for the larger one. Prices can change; these figures don't promise current stock. Official sizes and prices.
The larger bottle doubles the amount for another $11.50. That is a useful saving for someone who already enjoys this exact version. For a first purchase, the smaller bottle keeps the initial spend lower; neither amount tells you whether the toner will be right for your skin.
There's no honest universal “months per bottle” figure here. A little poured into your palms and enough to soak several pads are very different uses. Choose the size for how you actually apply toner, not the routine in a video.
Anua's strongest case is modest: a light first layer that you enjoy using between cleansing and cream. If that is the experience you're after, check the current label and consider the 250 mL bottle. If you're shopping for a specific skin-treatment result, settle that question before committing to half a liter of toner.
Round Lab Dokdo Toner adds mild exfoliation for oily, textured skin; Anua Heartleaf 77 is the calmer hydrator. Formulas, pads and price per ml compared.
