Numbuzin No.3 vs No.5 Serum: softening and pores, or dark spots?
Updated October 22, 2026
If rough, grainy texture and pores that show through makeup are what bother you, start with the Numbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum, 50 ml: a ferment-based, fragrance-free softening serum and the cheaper of the two. If dark spots, post-breakout marks or uneven tone are the goal, buy the Numbuzin No.5+ Glutathione Vitamin Concentrated Serum, 30 ml, which pairs tranexamic acid and niacinamide with alpha-arbutin and three forms of vitamin C.
Neither number is a strength. Numbuzin files its range by skin concern, so No.3 and No.5 are two different goals, not a milder and a stronger version of the same serum.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested either serum; texture descriptions are the brand's or our product pages', and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What do the Numbuzin numbers mean?
Each number stands for a skin concern, not a percentage, a step in a routine or a count of ingredients. On numbuzin's US store the No.3 line is filed under pores and texture, the No.5 line under dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and the No.9 line under sagging skin.
The same number goes on toners, pads, cleansers and serums with unrelated formulas. A No.3 toner is not a lighter No.3 serum, and a No.5 pad is not a diluted No.5 serum. Choose the number by the problem you want to work on first, then choose the format.
Sleepy Hello stocks No.3 and No.5 products but not the No.9 line, so this comparison sticks to the two serums, plus the No.5 sibling that causes the most confusion.
What is the difference between Numbuzin No.3 and No.5?
No.3 is built on ferments for softness and smoothness; No.5 is built on tone-evening actives. Both lists share butylene glycol, glycerin and 1,2-hexanediol, plus niacinamide, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and adenosine. No.5 also lists bifida ferment lysate, No.3's lead ingredient, though far down its list. Beyond that, the two formulas have little in common.
No.3 Skin Softening Serum. The list opens with bifida ferment lysate at 42% and galactomyces ferment filtrate at 21%, both printed ahead of water. Ferments are yeast- or bacteria-derived liquids used as skin conditioners. Next come butylene glycol and methyl gluceth-20 (humectants, which draw water into the top layer of skin), water, then niacinamide in sixth place. Later come glycerin, squalane (tenth, a light emollient that softens), sodium hyaluronate, panthenol and adenosine. The list also includes silk and goat milk extracts, which matters if you avoid animal-derived ingredients. We found no fragrance, essential oil or drying alcohol in it.
No.5+ Glutathione Vitamin Concentrated Serum.Numbuzin's current US ingredient list starts with water, butylene glycol, niacinamide, panthenol and tranexamic acid, followed by 1,2-hexanediol, two emollients, sorbitol and lingonberry fruit extract. Further down are 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid (a stable vitamin C derivative), alpha-arbutin, glutathione, ceramide NP, ascorbic acid and ascorbyl glucoside. Tranexamic acid and alpha-arbutin are both used for the look of uneven tone. The product description on our page states 5% niacinamide, 4% tranexamic acid and 5% panthenol; the brand's US page prints the list without percentages. The list has no added fragrance or essential oil, and the product description says it is made without animal-derived ingredients.
Texture and directions differ too. No.5's product description calls it silky and slightly viscous, with easy spread and no sticky finish, for use morning and evening. Our No.3 product page describes a thin, milky fluid from a glass dropper, two or three drops after toner.
The results figures are self-published. Numbuzin reports 30.9% less measured pore area and 11.4% less roughness after two weeks of No.3, and an 18.9% improvement in tone evenness with a 9.65% drop in the look of dark spots after four weeks of No.5. It doesn't publish participant counts or methods, so read these as brand claims.
Which Numbuzin serum is best for dark spots?
The No.5+ Glutathione Vitamin Concentrated Serum is the Numbuzin serum to pick for dark spots and post-breakout marks. It sits in numbuzin's No.5 dark spot line, and it is the only serum here that lists tranexamic acid and alpha-arbutin alongside niacinamide and vitamin C.
The directions are simple: after cleansing and toner, morning and evening, apply a few drops, pat until absorbed, add a second layer where skin wants more moisture, then moisturizer. In the morning, finish with sunscreen. Daily sunscreen matters as much as the serum, because sun exposure can keep marks looking dark.
Tone-evening ingredients work gradually. The brand's own figures are measured at four weeks, so judge the bottle over a month or more, not a few days.
If you like a wipe-on step, the No.5 Vitamin-Niacinamide Concentrated Pad, 70 pads carries the same goal in toner form: niacinamide at 50,000 ppm (5%), tranexamic acid, two vitamin C forms and a trace of glutathione (0.3 ppm), plus two mild exfoliating acids, a PHA and an LHA. Alcohol appears low in the list. Wipe after cleansing, or leave the smooth jelly side on for three to five minutes.
Which Numbuzin serum is best for texture and dullness?
The No.3 Skin Softening Serum is the pick for grainy texture and visible pores; for dullness, Numbuzin's glow-focused No.3 product is the essence toner below. The serum's high-ferment, squalane-softened base is aimed at softness and smoothness rather than fading marks.
Use two or three drops after cleansing and toner, spread them evenly and press in with flat fingers, then follow with a cream and, in the day, sunscreen.
The No.3 Super Glowing Essence Toner, 200 ml lists dullness and uneven texture as its concerns, and the product description calls it a slightly thick, yellow essence toner with a dewy, bouncy finish. Its list opens with water, dipropylene glycol, glycereth-26, 1,2-hexanediol and niacinamide, then a long run of ferments the description calls a 50-ferment blend. The list also includes geranium flower oil, geraniol and citronellol, so the toner is fragranced even though the serum is not.
Can you use Numbuzin No.3 and No.5 together?
Yes. On paper the two serums combine without conflict: neither contains a retinoid or an exfoliating acid, and the main ingredient they share, niacinamide, is commonly layered. Numbuzin doesn't publish a pairing instruction for these two on the pages we checked, so this is our reading of the formulas.
Three simple ways to do it:
Split them: No.5 in the morning under sunscreen, No.3 at night under your cream.
Layer them: thinnest first, so No.3, then No.5, then moisturizer.
Introduce one at a time, two weeks apart, so you can tell which product is responsible if your skin reacts.
If you notice stinging or flushing, drop back to one serum. Niacinamide appears in both serums and again in the No.5 pads and No.3 toner, so we wouldn't stack all four in one routine.
What is the difference between Numbuzin No.5 Vitamin Serum and Goodbye Blemish Serum?
The Vitamin Concentrated Serum is the one with tranexamic acid and alpha-arbutin; the Goodbye Blemish Serum is a lighter gel built on sea buckthorn with niacinamide, vitamin C and citrus oils. Both belong to the No.5 dark spot line.
The No.5 Goodbye Blemish Serum, 50 ml opens with Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) extract, the "Vitamin Tree Extract" named on the label, then butylene glycol, methyl gluceth-20, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol and niacinamide. Neem, holy basil, turmeric, licorice root and centella extracts follow, with the same three vitamin C forms found in the Vitamin serum. It doesn't list tranexamic acid or alpha-arbutin. The list does include lemon peel, orange peel and lime oils plus citral and limonene, fragrance components that easily irritated skin may want to skip.
The product description calls Goodbye Blemish a refreshing gel that absorbs quickly without a sticky or greasy finish. Apply two or three pumps after toner and tap in, add a second thin layer if you want more, or soak a thin cotton pad and leave it on one area for three minutes before your cream. The directions say it can be used daily.
Choose Goodbye Blemish if you want a gel texture and a larger bottle. Choose the Vitamin Concentrated Serum if you want tranexamic acid and arbutin in the formula, or want to avoid citrus oils.
No.3 costs less than half as much per ml as No.5, but price shouldn't decide this one. Our take:
Pick No.3 if your skin feels rough, your pores are the main complaint, and you don't avoid animal-derived ingredients.
Pick No.5+ Glutathione if dark spots, post-breakout marks or uneven tone are the main complaint and you will wear sunscreen every morning.
Pick Goodbye Blemish if you want the No.5 goal in a gel and don't mind citrus oils.
Pick both No.3 and No.5 if you have both concerns, and split them morning and night.
