Best Korean lip balm: Laneige Lip Glowy Balm vs six tinted and clear picks
Updated October 22, 2026
For most shoppers, the best Korean lip balm is Laneige Lip Glowy Balm: $16.99 buys a 10 g tube, about $1.70 a gram, less than any stick on this list, and it comes in sheer pink (Berry, Sweet Candy) or near-clear (Vanilla, Mango) shades. Pick Athe Authentic Lip Balm or Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm if you want buildable color, and Pyunkang Yul's Kids & Mom Barrier Lip Balm if you want an unscented balm, because the Laneige Glowy Balm, Tocobo's two tinted balms and The Face Shop stick all list fragrance.
The shortlist: Laneige for value, Tocobo for budget color, Athe for buildable pinks and plums, Pyunkang Yul for plain moisture, The Face Shop for a coral stick and Unleashia for shimmer.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested these balms; texture and finish descriptions are the brands', and the buying advice comes from comparing ingredient lists, directions, sizes and prices. Price per gram is worked out from each listing's net weight.
Laneige Lip Glowy Balm: the 10 g tube the others are measured against
Laneige Lip Glowy Balm in Berry is a soft balm in a squeeze tube, sold as Laneige's lighter daytime option next to its overnight Lip Sleeping Mask. It costs $16.99 for 10 g at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026. Laneige's US site lists it from $19.
The formula is built like a glossy lip product. The first ingredients are hydrogenated polyisobutene (a synthetic emollient that gives cushion and shine), a group of plant-sterol esters called dimer dilinoleates (rich, lanolin-like emollients), hydrogenated poly(C6-14 olefin), diisostearyl malate (a slippery emollient common in lipsticks), polybutene (a glossy film former) and microcrystalline wax. Shea butter comes next, with murumuru seed butter, candelilla wax and carnauba wax further down. Laneige's US page lists fragrance (parfum) in every shade.
Laneige's directions are simple: apply through the day as needed, put it on before lip color to smooth the surface, or layer it over color for shine. The brand describes the texture as lightweight with a glossy finish.
Our take: it's the easiest pick if you want one tube in your bag with shine and a hint of color. Skip it if you avoid fragrance or want a tint that reads as lip color.
Six Korean alternatives, tinted and clear
Every pick below is a stick between 2.8 g and 5.5 g: more per gram than the Laneige tube, but more pocketable.
Tocobo Glow Ritual Lip Balm 001 Coral Water costs $7.49 for 3.5 g, about $2.14 a gram, checked October 2026. It's a single soft coral shade. The ingredient list opens with octyldodecanol, polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, a dimer dilinoleate ester, diisostearyl malate, polyisobutene and synthetic wax, then sunflower seed oil and olive fruit oil, the two oils Tocobo features.
Shimmer comes from calcium titanium borosilicate plus diamond, ruby and sapphire powders. The list includes parfum and scent components such as linalool, geraniol, citronellol and limonene. Tocobo says to apply it whenever lips feel dry, add layers for more color, and put it on before a lip tint or lipstick if you're pairing them.
Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm: three buildable shades for under $9
Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm costs $8.09 for 3.5 g, about $2.31 a gram, in 011 Flush Cherry, 012 Better Pink and 013 Tangerine Red. Tocobo describes a glossy, glass-like finish with color that stays soft in one layer and gets more vivid as you build it.
The base is close to the Glow Ritual balm: polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, diisostearyl malate, octyldodecanol, polyisobutene, a rosin-based ester that adds gloss and grip, synthetic wax, then sunflower seed, olive fruit and jojoba seed oils. It also lists parfum and the same scent components. Tocobo calls the formula vegan. Our take: it's the best-value way to get visible color in a balm.
Athe Authentic Lip Balm: four buildable shades, at the highest price per gram
Athe Authentic Lip Balm costs $15.99 for 3.4 g, about $4.70 a gram, checked October 2026. It comes in four shades sold separately: 01 Authentic (natural pink), 04 Brave (a vibrant pink-toned red), 11 Low-Key (mauve petal pink) and 12 Alluring (plum pink). Our product page FAQ is clear that it's a tinted solid balm, not a clear one.
The list starts with diisostearyl malate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, squalane (a lightweight emollient), a phenyl silicone that adds shine, octyldodecanol and two pentaerythrityl esters. Madecassoside (a centella compound), macadamia, olive, jojoba and grape seed oils, and peach fruit and flower extracts appear later. Our page's ingredient list doesn't print fragrance. Athe describes a buttery, light glide and a dewy, high-shine finish; twist the base and apply directly, layering for more color.
Pyunkang Yul Moisturizing Lip Balm Dancheong: plain moisture, no tint
Pyunkang Yul Moisturizing Lip Balm Dancheong is $8.09 for 2.8 g, about $2.89 a gram, but it was out of stock when we checked in October 2026; the product page has a notify-me option. It's the clear pick on this list: Pyunkang Yul describes a melting texture and a non-sticky, subtle natural sheen rather than color.
The first ingredients are diisostearyl malate, polyisobutene, caprylic/capric triglyceride (a light, coconut-derived emollient), polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, octyldodecanol, bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2 (an emollient ester) and microcrystalline wax. Apricot kernel, sweet almond, avocado, olive, macadamia and camellia oils and shea butter follow. No fragrance is listed, though the botanical extracts include peppermint, jasmine and rose. The directions also suggest a generous bedtime layer for overnight care.
While the Dancheong balm is out, the brand's Kids & Mom Barrier Lip Balm is in stock at $7.09 for 2.8 g, about $2.53 a gram. Pyunkang Yul describes it as unscented, and its list includes ceramide NP, sodium hyaluronate, honey extract and shea butter, so it isn't a vegan pick.
The Face Shop Dr. Belmeur Advance Cica Touch Lip Balm Coral: a coral stick with centella
The Face Shop Dr. Belmeur Advance Cica Touch Lip Balm in Coral costs $12.99 for 5.5 g, about $2.36 a gram, checked October 2026. It's the largest stick here. The Face Shop describes a natural-looking coral flush that builds on your own lip color, with a moisturizing, non-sticky finish.
The list opens with a dimer dilinoleate ester, triethylhexanoin, polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, a phenyl silicone, ceresin and synthetic and microcrystalline waxes. The centella ingredients behind the "Cica" name are printed with their amounts: asiaticoside at 0.35 ppm and centella extract at 0.1 ppm, which are very small. The list also includes fragrance, limonene, citronellol, linalool, geraniol and citral; the brand calls the scent fresh citrus. Directions: apply to dry lips whenever needed, leave it on and reapply as often as you like.
Unleashia Glacier Vegan Lip Balm: shimmer over bare lips or color
Unleashia Glacier Vegan Lip Balm costs $9.99 for 3.3 g, about $3.03 a gram, in three shade effects. No.1 Snow Frost is a clear base with golden shimmer, No.2 Blue Lagoon looks blue in the stick and turns a soft pink on lips with pink, blue and silver shimmer, and No.3 Nude Bluff is a nude-brown tint with pink and gold shimmer.
Unleashia names shea butter and a vitamin complex and calls the formula vegan, but the full ingredient list isn't printed on our product page, so check the carton if you're screening for fragrance or a specific ingredient. The brand says to glide it over bare lips, or over a lipstick or tint for shine and dimension.
What is the best Korean tinted lip balm?
Tocobo Glass Tinted Lip Balm and Athe Authentic Lip Balm are the best tinted picks here, because both brands sell them as buildable tints. Tocobo is the value choice at $8.09; Athe costs $15.99, and we'd choose it for its four pinks and plums. Laneige's Berry or Sweet Candy Glowy Balm suits a sheer wash with shine.
None of these brands publishes a pigment strength or wear time, so this follows their own words: "buildable" for Athe and Tocobo, "sheer" for Laneige, and a "natural-looking flush" for The Face Shop coral stick. For color that lasts, a lip tint is the better tool.
Which Korean lip balm is fragrance-free?
Pyunkang Yul's Kids & Mom Barrier Lip Balm is the clearest fragrance-free choice, because the brand calls it unscented and its ingredient list has no fragrance. The Dancheong balm and Athe Authentic Lip Balm also print no fragrance on our pages. Dancheong does contain aromatic plant extracts such as peppermint and jasmine, and Athe includes peach extracts.
If you want a clear Tocobo balm without scent, the Tocobo Vitamin Nourishing Lip Balm ($8.49 for 3.5 g, about $2.43 a gram) has no parfum on its printed list. Tocobo features jojoba, meadowfoam and avocado oils with vitamin E, niacinamide and a small vitamin blend, and Tocobo suggests a thicker layer at night.
These list fragrance: every Laneige Glowy Balm shade, Tocobo Glow Ritual and Glass Tinted, and The Face Shop coral stick. Unleashia's full list isn't on our page, so read the box. Only the Kids & Mom balm makes an unscented claim; the others simply print no fragrance.
Lip balm vs lip mask: do you need both?
Most people need only one: a balm if your lips get dry during the day, or a lip mask if they're fine by day but rough by morning. A balm goes on thin and gets reapplied, while a mask goes on thick at bedtime and stays on overnight.
The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry shows the difference in the formula. It shares the Glowy Balm's emollient, butter and wax base, then adds glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and beta-glucan, humectants that attract water, and comes as a 20 g jar for $17.99, about $0.90 a gram. Laneige says to spread a generous layer at night and wipe off any excess in the morning.
Buy both only if you wear lip color most days and your lips also look flaky by morning. Otherwise, a balm whose directions include a thicker night layer, such as Pyunkang Yul Dancheong or Tocobo Vitamin Nourishing, can cover both jobs.
How to choose: format, size and price per gram
Start with the format: the Laneige tube gives the lowest cost per gram, and sticks suit pockets and quick touch-ups.
Then decide on color. Clear or near-clear: Pyunkang Yul, Tocobo Vitamin Nourishing, Unleashia Snow Frost, Laneige Vanilla or Mango. Sheer: Laneige Berry, Sweet Candy and Gummy Bear, Tocobo Glow Ritual, The Face Shop Coral. Buildable: Tocobo Glass Tinted and Athe.
Is Laneige Lip Glowy Balm the same as the Lip Sleeping Mask?
No. The Glowy Balm is a lighter, sheer-tinted 10 g tube for reapplying during the day, and the Lip Sleeping Mask is a richer 20 g jar meant for a generous layer overnight. They share butters and waxes, but the mask adds humectants such as glycerin and sodium hyaluronate.
Which Laneige Lip Glowy Balm flavor has the most tint?
Laneige describes Berry and Sweet Candy as pink tints and Gummy Bear as a sheer lavender; Vanilla and Mango give minimal to no color and Blue Berry is barely there. The brand doesn't rank the shades further. Links: Sweet Candy, Gummy Bear, Vanilla, Mango and Blue Berry, each $16.99.
Do Korean lip balms have SPF?
None of the balms in this guide has an SPF rating. Titanium dioxide shows up in several lists, but as a colorant (CI 77891), not as a labeled sunscreen, and our Laneige Mango page says outright that the balm has no SPF. For time outdoors, use a lip product labeled with an SPF and reapply it as its label directs.
Can you wear these balms under lip tint?
Yes. Laneige, Tocobo Glow Ritual and Tocobo Vitamin Nourishing all suggest a layer before lip color, and Laneige and Unleashia also suggest layering over color for shine.
Which is the best value Korean lip balm?
By price per gram, Laneige Lip Glowy Balm at about $1.70 a gram, because the tube holds 10 g. By sticker price, Pyunkang Yul Kids & Mom at $7.09 and Tocobo Glow Ritual at $7.49 are the cheapest to try.
Glowy Balm is the sheer-tinted daytime tube; Lip Sleeping Mask is the richer overnight jar at about half the price per gram. Formula, tint, six flavors.
