Best Korean lip tint: Rom&nd for gloss or matte, Etude Fixing Tint for less transfer
Updated October 22, 2026
The best Korean lip tint is the one whose finish matches how you want to wear it: Rom&nd Dewyful Water Tint for glossy color with a natural-looking stain, Rom&nd Blur Fudge Tint for a soft matte that stays where you put it, and Etude Fixing Tint if transfer onto cups and masks is your main worry. Lilybyred and Tiptoe are cheaper glossy alternatives, while 3CE (deeper shades) and Peripera (lighter and cheapest) add two more velvets.
All eight below cost between $8.79 and $13.99 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026. This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information. We haven't worn or tested these tints; texture and wear descriptions are the brands', and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
Glossy water tints: Rom&nd, Lilybyred and Tiptoe
A water tint is mostly water, a film former and color. It goes on sheer and shiny, the gloss wears away as you eat and drink, and the color left on your lips is the stain. Pick this family if you like a fresh, juicy look and don't mind topping up the shine.
Rom&nd Dewyful Water Tint: the easiest stain to control
Rom&nd describes Dewyful Water Tint as an ultra-light, watery tint with a clear, dewy gloss and a natural-looking stain that wipes off easily and reapplies smoothly. That makes it the most forgiving tint here.
The ingredient list starts with water, octyldodecanol (an emollient), dimethicone, alcohol denat., acrylates copolymer, sorbitan stearate (an emulsifier) and ethylcellulose. The acrylates copolymer and ethylcellulose are film formers, which help color stay on the lip once the water evaporates. Alcohol sits fourth, worth knowing if your lips run dry. Fruit extracts (kiwi, papaya, grapefruit, coconut, mango, guava) follow, and no fragrance is listed.
Its directions spell out a gradient: concentrate the tint on the inner lips, blend outward, then wait a few seconds for the dewy finish. We stock seven shades, from #1 In Coral to #8 Berry Divine, at $12.99 for 5 g, checked October 2026, about $2.60 a gram.
Rom&nd Glasting Water Tint: the glassiest shine
Glasting Water Tint is Rom&nd's higher-shine version. The brand describes separate layers: the pigment grips your lips while a glossy film forms on top. Rom&nd says the color is designed to resist fading but promises no exact wear time.
After water come diphenyl dimethicone (a shine-giving silicone), diisostearyl malate and bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2 (emollients common in glosses), octyldodecanol and hydrogenated polyisobutene, with squalane and glycerin further down. The ingredient list includes fragrance (parfum) and fragrance components such as hexyl cinnamal.
Start at the inner lips and wait a few seconds for the glassy finish to form before pressing your lips together. We list three shades, #2 Red Drop, #3 Brick River (a red-brown) and #8 Rose Stream (a dried rose), at $12.99 for 4 g, checked October 2026.
Lilybyred Juicy Liar Water Tint: a gel tint sold shade by shade
The formula begins with water, octyldodecanol, butylene glycol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, ethylcellulose (a film former) and PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, thickened into a gel. Its colors are listed as dyes (Sunset Yellow FCF, Phloxine B, Fast Acid Magenta, Tartrazine) rather than pigment lakes; in our reading, that dye-based formula is behind its long-lasting color. Ethanol is listed further down. No.2 lists no fragrance; No.3 and No.4 list limonene, linalool and geraniol, which are fragrance components.
For a gradient, the No.2 page says to dab small dots at the center of your lips, then press them together. Each shade is $11.99 for 4 g, checked October 2026.
Tiptoe Glowit Sorbet Tint: PDRN and ten forms of hyaluronic acid
Tiptoe describes Glowit Sorbet Tint as a water-oil texture with sheer, buildable color and a soft glow. When the shine fades, the brand says a soft, even stain stays visible through ordinary daily wear.
The first ingredients are water, trimethylsiloxysilicate (a film-forming resin often used in long-wear makeup), diisostearyl malate, diphenylsiloxy phenyl trimethicone, isononyl isononanoate and glycerin. Further down are PDRN, which Tiptoe says comes from rose petals, and ten forms of hyaluronic acid. The ingredient list includes fragrance.
Apply it from the inner lips outward and layer for more color. The shade picker lists 12 colors; eight, including 101 Toeshoes S2, were in stock at $11.99 for 4.5 ml, checked October 2026.
Velvet tints: Rom&nd Blur Fudge, 3CE and Peripera
Velvet tints swap water for silicones: dimethicone and silicone crosspolymers, soft powdery gels that blur the look of lip lines. 3CE and Peripera add volatile silicones that evaporate as the tint sets, while Blur Fudge relies on waxes such as tribehenin and microcrystalline wax. The result is a soft matte instead of shine, and none of these three brands describes a stain.
Rom&nd Blur Fudge Tint: the matte one that stays put
Rom&nd describes Blur Fudge Tint as a featherlight mousse that settles into a diffused matte and is designed not to smudge or transfer. It is the only velvet tint here that makes that promise outright.
The formula contains no water. It starts with dimethicone, dimethicone crosspolymer, tribehenin (a waxy emollient), polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate and diisostearyl malate, then adds paraffin, microcrystalline wax, macadamia seed oil and tocopherol (vitamin E). Rom&nd says that wax-infused base is made to smooth and condition dry lips. No fragrance is listed.
Put it on the center of your lips, blend outward with the applicator, a fingertip or a brush, and soften the edges; fill the whole lip and layer for a bolder look. Eight of its 11 listed shades were in stock at $12.99 for 5 g, checked October 2026, about $2.60 a gram.
3CE Velvet Lip Tint: deep reds and browns
3CE Velvet Lip Tint is the pick for richer, darker color. 3CE describes a creamy yet airy texture from a doe-foot wand that sets to a soft, non-drying matte with a velvet feel. Its page makes no wear-time or transfer claim.
The list opens with dimethicone, dimethicone crosspolymer, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, isododecane and cyclohexasiloxane; the two cyclic silicones and isododecane are the parts that evaporate as it sets. Sunflower seed oil, calendula flower oil and rose extracts close the list, and no fragrance is listed.
We stock Cashmere Nude (a dusty mauve rose), Definition (a deep blood red) and Bitter Hour (a dark chocolate brown), at $13.99 for 4 g, checked October 2026, the most per gram here at about $3.50.
Peripera Ink Airy Velvet: the lightest velvet, when it's back
Peripera describes Ink Airy Velvet as a thin, light tint that blends into a watercolor-like gradient with an ultra-light velvet finish, and says it can go on cheeks and eyes too. Both shades we list, #21 Fluffy Peach (a muted pink-peach) and #23 In The Peachlight (a peach-pink), were out of stock when we checked in October 2026.
The formula begins with dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone crosspolymer, cyclohexasiloxane, polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, titanium dioxide, 1,2-hexanediol and talc, and it lists fragrance components such as linalool. Peripera says #23 is designed to resist smudging but publishes no wear time. At $8.79 for 4 g it is the cheapest tint here.
Which Korean lip tint is the most transfer-resistant?
Etude Fixing Tint is our pick: it is the only one of the eight that names mask transfer and gives an exact set time. Once set, Etude says the color is designed to transfer less readily onto a face mask. Rom&nd Blur Fudge makes a broader no-smudge, no-transfer claim without those details, so it ranks second.
Etude Fixing Tint in 01 Analog Rose, a toned-down red with a hint of orange, sets to what Etude calls a lightweight hydro-matte finish that is non-tacky once dry. The formula shows why: water and isododecane, a solvent that evaporates quickly, carry dimethicone and a silicone powder, with disteardimonium hectorite (a clay thickener) and an acrylates film former further down. The ingredient list includes fragrance.
Adjust the amount on the applicator tip first, apply, then let it set; the 08 Dusty Beige page says to let it fix for 60 seconds. For a gradient, place it on the inner lips and blend outward; for a full lip, trace the edge and fill in. We stock 13 shade pages, including 02 Vintage Red and 08 Dusty Beige, most at $12.99 for 4 g (13 Melange Rose was $10.50), checked October 2026.
Water tint vs velvet tint: which lasts longer?
A water tint's stain usually outlasts its shine, while a velvet or fixing tint keeps its finish in place longer; none of these brands publishes wear hours. Tiptoe says a soft, even stain stays visible after the shine fades, and Rom&nd calls Dewyful's stain natural-looking. The velvet and fixing brands promise no stain once the color wears away.
Read "long-lasting" as a comparison within a brand's range, not a number. Here is how we'd choose, with Sleepy Hello prices checked October 2026:
Pick a water tint if you like a glossy, natural look: Rom&nd Dewyful for the easiest gradient ($12.99, 5 g), Rom&nd Glasting for the most shine ($12.99, 4 g), Lilybyred Juicy Liar for long-lasting, dye-based color ($11.99, 4 g) or Tiptoe Glowit Sorbet for hyaluronic acid and PDRN ($11.99, 4.5 ml).
Pick a velvet tint if you want a soft matte that blurs lip lines: Rom&nd Blur Fudge for the no-transfer claim ($12.99, 5 g), 3CE Velvet Lip Tint for deep reds and browns ($13.99, 4 g), or Peripera Ink Airy Velvet ($8.79, 4 g) once it's back.
Pick Etude Fixing Tint if transfer onto masks and cups decides it: 01 Analog Rose ($12.99, 4 g).
How do you do a Korean gradient lip with a tint?
Put the tint on your inner lips and blend outward so the color fades toward the edges and lips look flushed rather than painted; every tint here can do it.
Start with smooth, bare lips. If you used a balm, blot it off so the tint can grip.
If you like, dab a little concealer over the outer lip line to soften its edge.
Put the tint on the inner part of your lips only, or dab small dots at the center the way Lilybyred suggests.
Blend outward with the applicator, a fingertip or a small brush, stopping short of the lip line.
Let it set. Rom&nd's Glasting directions ask you to wait a few seconds without pressing your lips together, and Etude says to let Fixing Tint set.
Add a second dab at the center for depth. A velvet tint gives a blurred gradient; a water tint gives a juicier one.
How do you remove a long-wear lip tint?
Use an oil-based remover instead of scrubbing. A bi-phase lip and eye remover breaks down the film of a velvet or fixing tint, and a cleansing oil or balm does the same job in your first cleanse.
Banila Co Clean It Zero Lip & Eye Remover is made for this: Banila Co describes a 3:7 oil-to-water bi-phase formula for long-lasting lipstick and waterproof mascara, and calls it fragrance-free. Its list starts with water, isohexadecane and isododecane, the light solvents that do the dissolving. Shake it, soak a cotton pad and wipe gently; letting the pad rest on your lips for a few seconds first means less rubbing. It is $9.39 for 100 ml, checked October 2026.
A faint stain from a water tint can stay after the film is gone. It fades on its own, and scrubbing only leaves lips feeling rougher, so finish with a balm or an overnight lip mask.
Quick answers
What is the difference between a Korean lip tint and a lipstick?
A lipstick is a wax-and-oil bullet that sits on top of your lips as a layer of color, while a lip tint is a thinner liquid, gel or mousse with a lighter feel. Water tints leave a stain once the gloss fades and velvet tints set to a soft film, which is why tints are the usual base for a gradient lip.
Do Korean lip tints stain or dry out your lips?
Water tints usually leave a stain, as Tiptoe and Rom&nd say of Glowit Sorbet and Dewyful, and dryness depends on the formula. Dewyful lists alcohol denat. fourth, so lips that run dry may prefer emollient-led Glasting, or Tiptoe Glowit Sorbet, which adds glycerin, squalane and hyaluronic acid and lists no alcohol denat. Prep with a balm, blot it, and use a lip mask at night; our Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask review covers one option.
Is a Korean lip tint the same as a lip stain?
Close. "Lip stain" usually means the stain-forward water tints, such as Tiptoe Glowit Sorbet and Rom&nd Dewyful, which their brands say leave a stain. Velvet and fixing tints wear more like a liquid lipstick.
Which Korean lip tints contain fragrance?
Going by the ingredient lists, Rom&nd Glasting, Etude Fixing Tint and Tiptoe Glowit Sorbet list fragrance, while Peripera and Lilybyred Juicy Liar No.3 and No.4 list fragrance components. Rom&nd Dewyful, Rom&nd Blur Fudge, Juicy Liar No.2 and 3CE Velvet list none.
