Korean toner pads: compare the formula before adding a step
Updated September 8, 2026
The best Korean toner pads are the ones that do a job your routine still needs. Choose a moisture-focused formula if you want an optional hydrating step, an exfoliating formula if you specifically want exfoliation, or keep your liquid toner if it already works. A soaked pad is a delivery format; it doesn't make the formula more effective.
For a short list, Mediheal Watermide Moisture Pad illustrates the hydration route, Anua Heartleaf 77 Clear Pad combines heartleaf with an exfoliating PHA, and Medicube Zero Pore Pads offers an AHA/BHA option. Their differences matter more than which jar is most recognizable.
This is a desk-researched comparison of current official US storefront information, checked on September 7, 2026. We haven't personally tested these pads. The selections below reflect their listed formulas, directions, and practical tradeoffs, rather than a performance ranking.
Start with the step you want to change
Before choosing a jar, finish this sentence:
“I want this pad to replace or improve ___.”
A hydrating toner you keep spilling or skipping: a pre-soaked pad may make application easier. Compare the formula with the liquid you already like.
A separate exfoliant: look for a product explicitly intended for exfoliation, then check its acids and directions. Count it as your exfoliating step.
A short mask on selected areas: choose a pad with directions for that use. A swipe-on exfoliant doesn't automatically belong on your cheeks for ten minutes.
Nothing in particular: you can leave pads out. The American Academy of Dermatology's simple skincare approach centers on cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection.
That last option is useful even if you enjoy Korean skincare. There is no need to make room for every format. A product can be appealing without solving a problem for you.
Compare the liquid and the contact separately
A toner pad brings two things to your skin: the formula soaking it and the way you apply it.
A moisture-focused liquid can contain ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid. An exfoliating one may contain AHA, BHA, or PHA ingredients. Some combine both purposes. If you're curious about a familiar humectant, our glycerin guide explains its hydration evidence and formula limits.
The pad adds contact. Repeated wiping is different from lightly applying liquid with your hands. The AAD distinguishes mechanical and chemical exfoliation and notes that mechanical exfoliation can be too irritating for dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin.
Flipping a pad changes its surface, not the liquid soaking it. The smooth side of an acid pad still carries the acid formula. It isn't a separate acid-free hydration step.
This gives you two useful checks: “Do I want this formula?” and “Do I want to apply it this way?” You can like the ingredients and still prefer a liquid.
Three Korean toner pads to compare
These examples cover different choices within the format. Check the label on the product you're buying against the linked US page, especially when ordering an imported version or a refill. Similar names and packaging don't establish that two formulas are identical.
Mediheal Watermide Moisture Pad: a hydration-focused option
Mediheal's US storefront lists betaine, sodium PCA, glycerin, and several hyaluronic-acid forms in Watermide Moisture Pad. It also lists aromatic oils, including rosemary and clary oils. The brand describes a moisture-focused product and gives both swiping and 15-minute targeted-mask directions. The listed pack contains 100 pads. See the official Watermide formula and directions.
Consider it if the main appeal is a ready-soaked hydration step or a short mask. The aromatic oils are a reason to look elsewhere if you already know those ingredients bother you. “Moisture” in the name doesn't make it an automatic sensitive-skin choice.
This example doesn't establish that Watermide hydrates better than a liquid toner, or that it suits everyone who gets dry skin. Ingredient percentages weren't disclosed in the page's text.
Anua Heartleaf 77 Clear Pad: heartleaf plus exfoliation
Anua's US page lists 77% Houttuynia cordata extract and gluconolactone, a PHA. Its directions describe swiping with the embossed side after cleansing, avoiding eyes and lips, then pressing with the smooth side. See the official Heartleaf 77 Clear Pad page.
The useful distinction is that this is an exfoliating pad despite its botanical headline. The 77% refers to the heartleaf ingredient; it is not the acid concentration. The page doesn't disclose the gluconolactone percentage.
Consider it when you want a PHA-containing pad and are willing to make room for exfoliation in your routine. Don't select it as a plain hydrating substitute solely because you recognize heartleaf. Our gluconolactone guide explains why PHA research doesn't establish every finished product's strength or tolerability.
Medicube Zero Pore Pads: an AHA/BHA option
The current Medicube US page lists lactic acid and salicylic acid, alongside Alcohol Denat. and several aromatic oils. It describes a 70-pad AHA/BHA product, with directions to swipe both sides after cleansing and pat in the remaining liquid. See the official Zero Pore Pads page.
Consider this version if you're specifically comparing exfoliating pads. It would be an unnecessary addition if your existing exfoliant already meets that need. Check the ingredient list carefully if alcohol or aromatic oils have bothered you before.
The page's concentration wording is unclear: its highlighted 0.45% refers to white willow bark. That does not verify a 0.45% salicylic-acid concentration. We therefore aren't assigning this formula an acid percentage or a strength ranking. These details also shouldn't be transferred to Zero Pore Pad Mild, a separately named product.
Read beyond the headline ingredient
A large botanical percentage doesn't tell you how exfoliating a pad will be. Neither does the number of acids printed on the front.
An ingredient list is useful for identifying what's present, but you can't calculate exact percentages from its order. Under US cosmetic labeling rules, ingredients at one percent or less have an ordering exception.
For shopping purposes, read three things together: the complete ingredient list, the product's stated purpose, and its directions. If a concentration or use instruction matters to your choice and isn't clear, choose a better-documented option.
Also separate ingredient research from product results. A study on an acid solution doesn't prove that a particular jar will clear blackheads, fade marks, or produce the same result. Our salicylic acid guide goes into that distinction.
Give the pad one place in your routine
Here's a practical way to try the format without adding several overlapping steps.
If you already use a liquid hydrating toner: consider replacing that application with a moisture-focused pad. Keep your moisturizer. There's little reason to buy both formats at once unless you've identified a use for each.
If you already use an acid toner: treat an exfoliating pad as a possible replacement for that step. Don't automatically follow it with your usual acid toner because the new product says “toner” on the jar.
If you mainly want a mask before makeup: check whether the product supports stationary contact and follow that exact timing. The mask directions for one product aren't instructions for another. Using it on your whole face also isn't necessary just because several pads fit there.
For example, imagine you use a liquid toner each morning and an exfoliant on selected evenings. A hydration pad could take the liquid toner's place. An acid pad would belong in the exfoliant decision instead. Neither choice requires adding another daily slot.
A brand saying “daily” doesn't mean you need to begin with twice-daily use. Follow the label, introduce one new product at a time, and avoid increasing frequency simply to finish the jar faster.
Try a small area before full-face use. The AAD provides a home product-testing method over seven to ten days; keep the product's own contact-time and frequency limits in view. A home trial cannot guarantee future tolerance.
Use light contact. Don't repeatedly scrub one patch to chase a smoother result, and avoid exfoliating over sunburn or open wounds. Follow exfoliation with moisturizer, as advised in the AAD's exfoliation guidance.
If a product causes a reaction, wash it off and stop using it. Seek dermatology advice for a severe or unresolved reaction. Botanical ingredients can still include fragrance-related materials, which matters if fragrance is a known trigger. The AAD's testing advice covers both points.
Compare cost per use, then decide whether you want pads
Pad count only helps if you know how many you'll use at once.
Take a hypothetical $24 jar with 60 pads:
One pad per use costs $0.40 and gives 60 uses.
Three pads per mask session cost $1.20 and give 20 sessions.
Those are example calculations, not the current price of a product above. Compare the actual checkout cost and your intended use. A three-pad mask and a single swipe are different purchases even when they come from the same jar.
If you already apply a liquid toner with your hands, switching to pads adds a disposable item each time. If you enjoy the ready-soaked format or want a label-approved targeted mask, that convenience may be worth paying for. If your current liquid does the job comfortably, keeping it is an equally reasonable choice.
Choose the formula first. Then decide whether the pad makes that step better for you.
Medicube Zero Pore Pad 2.0 is the stronger two-acid pick for oily skin, COSRX costs less per pad, and Mild suits sensitive skin. Compare acids and prices.
