COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream review: do you need it with the 96 Essence?
Updated October 22, 2026
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream is a lightweight snail-mucin moisturizer, and you only need it alongside the 96 Essence if your routine is missing a cream step. If you already own the essence and a moisturizer you like, the 92 adds little you don't have; if you want a matching light gel-cream to finish the routine, or one product for a short routine on normal, combination or dehydrated skin, it's a sensible buy.
The quick version of the difference: the 96 Essence is a watery layer of snail secretion filtrate and humectants, while the 92 Cream is a similar base with emollients and a silicone added to hold that moisture in. Very dry skin will probably want something richer, and oily skin may do better with the essence plus a lighter lotion.
This is a researched review of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested either product; texture descriptions are COSRX's, and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What you're buying with the Snail 92 cream
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream, 100ml is a face moisturizer. COSRX describes a lightweight gel-cream with a fast-absorbing, non-sticky jelly texture and a dewy finish, and says it is designed for all skin types, especially sensitive or dry skin.
The first ten ingredients are snail secretion filtrate, betaine, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, sodium hyaluronate, cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid, arginine and dimethicone. Here is what those do:
Snail secretion filtrate is filtered snail secretion, usually called snail mucin. It works as a humectant-rich base, meaning it helps skin attract and hold water, and it stands in for plain water in this formula.
Betaine and sodium hyaluronate (a salt form of hyaluronic acid) are two more humectants.
Caprylic/capric triglyceride is a light emollient made from fatty acids and glycerin. It's the ingredient that makes the surface of skin feel softer.
Cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate are olive-derived emulsifiers that let oil and water sit together as a cream, and cetearyl alcohol and stearic acid thicken it. Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol, not the drying kind.
Dimethicone is a silicone that adds slip and leaves a thin film that helps slow water loss.
Further down the list are carbomer, panthenol, allantoin, sodium polyacrylate, xanthan gum, ethyl hexanediol, adenosine and phenoxyethanol, a common preservative. Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) and allantoin are skin-conditioning ingredients included for comfort, and adenosine is the ingredient COSRX connects with wrinkle care. The ingredient list includes no fragrance or essential oils, and the product description calls the formula free from artificial fragrance.
On size: COSRX sells the cream as a 100 g (3.52 oz) jar and in 50 g and 100 g tubes. Sleepy Hello stocks the 100 size, labeled 100ml, at $26.00, checked October 2026. That works out to about $0.26 per ml.
Is COSRX Advanced Snail 92 a moisturizer?
Yes. The 92 is a moisturizer, and COSRX's directions place it at the cream step: after cleansing and toning, and before sunscreen in the morning. The "All in One" name suggests it can be the only hydrating step for someone who skips essences and serums, and the formula supports that reading, because it carries the same kind of humectants as the essence plus the emollients that keep them in place.
What it isn't is a rich cream. There are no butters and only one oil-type emollient near the top of the list, so it sits closer to a gel-cream than to the heavier creams people reach for in winter. If your cheeks feel tight an hour after a light moisturizer, read the section on who should skip it before buying.
What is the difference between COSRX Snail 92 and 96?
The numbers tell you how much of each formula is snail secretion filtrate: 92% in the cream and 96.3% in the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, 100ml. They aren't strength ratings. In both products the filtrate replaces water as the base, so a higher number mostly means less room for other ingredients, not a more concentrated or more effective product.
The useful difference is what fills the remaining few percent. The essence has 12 ingredients: snail secretion filtrate, betaine, butylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, sodium polyacrylate, phenoxyethanol, sodium hyaluronate, allantoin, ethyl hexanediol, carbomer, panthenol and arginine. Those are humectants, light thickeners and a preservative, with no oils or silicone.
The cream shares most of that list (betaine, sodium hyaluronate, panthenol, allantoin, arginine, carbomer, sodium polyacrylate, ethyl hexanediol and phenoxyethanol) and adds caprylic/capric triglyceride, the two olivate emulsifiers, cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid, dimethicone, xanthan gum and adenosine. So the essence gives skin water-binding ingredients, and the cream gives similar ingredients plus a soft layer that slows how quickly that water leaves.
Texture follows the formula. COSRX describes the essence as clear, stretchy and a little stringy as you pat it in, settling to a cushioned finish. The cream is described as a non-sticky jelly that absorbs quickly and leaves a dewy finish.
Price is the other gap. The essence is $9.62 for 100 ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026, or about $0.10 per ml, against about $0.26 per ml for the cream.
Do you need both the Snail 96 Essence and the 92 Cream?
No. You need both only if you want two hydrating layers and don't already have a moisturizer you like. The essence and the cream overlap heavily on humectants, so the cream adds an emollient finish rather than a new active.
A simple way to decide:
You own the 96 and a moisturizer that works: keep what you have. The 92 wouldn't add much beyond a matching label.
You own the 96 and your moisturizer feels too heavy or greasy: the 92 is a reasonable swap, since it's built on the same base and COSRX describes it as lightweight.
You own neither and want one product: the cream is the better single purchase, because it does a moisturizer's job and the essence doesn't. The essence directions tell you to follow it with a moisturizer.
You want the full pairing: the two together come to $35.62 at Sleepy Hello prices checked October 2026, both in 100 sizes.
Your skin is very dry: the pairing may still feel light. Keep the essence and choose a richer cream (see below).
Our take: the 92 earns its place when it replaces something, either a moisturizer you don't like or the two products you'd otherwise layer. It's harder to justify as an extra step on top of a routine that already works.
How do you use COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream?
Use it as the last skincare step, with sunscreen on top in the morning. COSRX's directions are:
After cleansing and toning, apply a small amount evenly over your face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas.
Gently pat the cream to help it absorb.
In the morning, follow with sunscreen and then makeup.
If you also use the 96 Essence, it goes first: COSRX suggests two to three pumps for the face after toner, patted in, then moisturizer. A serum, if you use one, goes between the two. The full order is cleanser, toner, 96 Essence, serum, 92 Cream, then sunscreen in the morning.
COSRX doesn't give a fixed amount beyond "a small amount", so start with a thin layer and add a little more where you're drier. The directions cover morning use, and nothing in them limits the cream to one time of day; the essence directions also suggest a cream on top at night, which the 92 can be.
Because the cream's directions say to keep it off the eye area, COSRX makes a separate product for that spot: the COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream, 25ml. It also leads with snail secretion filtrate, and adds glycerin, sunflower seed oil, niacinamide and five peptides (copper tripeptide-1, acetyl hexapeptide-8, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7). Its directions call for one pump for both eyes, tapped along the orbital bone after essence or serum and before moisturizer. It's $18.99 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026, about $0.76 per ml, so we'd call it optional rather than part of the core pairing.
Is COSRX Snail 92 cream good for oily skin?
It can suit oily skin in a thin layer, but it isn't the most obvious COSRX pick. COSRX says the cream suits all skin types and describes it as lightweight and non-sticky, yet the formula still includes caprylic/capric triglyceride, fatty thickeners and dimethicone, and COSRX doesn't call it oil-free.
If your face gets shiny by midday, there are three reasonable routes:
Use the 96 Essence alone under sunscreen in the morning, and the 92 Cream only at night.
Apply the 92 thinly on the cheeks and use less through the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).
Choose a lighter moisturizer. COSRX's Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap, 100ml lists 70% birch sap (Betula Platyphylla Japonica juice) first and has no plant oils or caprylic/capric triglyceride in its ingredient list, though it does include dimethicone. It's $17.31 for 100 ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026.
If breakouts are your main concern, add one new product at a time so you can tell what's responsible for any change.
Who should skip the Snail 92 cream
Very dry skin. With no butters and one oil-type emollient near the top, the 92 is on the light side. COSRX's Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream, 100ml is the richer house option: its list includes sunflower seed oil and macadamia seed oil alongside glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride and sodium hyaluronate, and COSRX positions it for dry and dehydrated skin. It's $16.99 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026.
Anyone avoiding animal-derived ingredients. Snail secretion filtrate is the first ingredient in the cream, the essence and the eye cream.
Anyone whose skin hasn't liked the 96 Essence. The 92 is built on the same base, so it makes a poor second attempt.
Anyone happy with their current moisturizer. The 92 doesn't contain an active that a good basic moisturizer lacks.
Whichever cream you choose, try it on a small area for several days before using it all over, and stop if your skin reacts.
Prices are Sleepy Hello's, checked October 2026, and they do change. When we checked, the cream and the essence were showing as out of stock, and each product page offers a back-in-stock email.
