COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid: before you add an acid
Updated September 8, 2026
Before buying COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, count the exfoliating products already in your routine. An acid cleanser, exfoliating toner and retinol can make room for another bottle surprisingly hard to find. The decision is easier when this liquid has one clear job and a sensible place to do it.
Our view: it is worth comparing if you're specifically shopping for a leave-on exfoliant for blackhead-related concerns. It is a less useful purchase when what you need is hydration, or when your current routine already leaves your face sore. COSRX itself positions it for people with some acid experience, rather than presenting it as a compulsory first toner.
We checked current official information, product images and three editorial reviews on September 8, 2026. This is a researched buying assessment. We haven't used the liquid ourselves, measured pore changes or pooled customer ratings into a score.
What is in the current bottle?
The identifies a 100 ml leave-on liquid. Its ten-entry ingredient list begins with willow bark water, butylene glycol, betaine salicylate and niacinamide. Panthenol and sodium hyaluronate appear farther down the list. Neither Fragrance nor Parfum is listed.
Those moisturizing ingredients don't turn it into a plain hydrating essence. The product's purpose and its combination warnings still matter. If you want an extra layer mainly because your cheeks feel dry, start with your moisturizer and the products that may be contributing to that dryness.
The pump bottle has a clear cap, and the product is applied after cleansing. “Blackhead Power” is its name, not a promise that every dark-looking dot will disappear. The brand's benefit descriptions are marketing claims; we haven't independently established a predictable improvement or timetable.
The 4% figure needs its full ingredient name
COSRX's current ingredient graphic states betaine salicylate 4%, niacinamide 2%, and a pH of 4.85 ± 0.35. These are brand-disclosed specifications, not measurements taken by Sleepy Hello.
Keep “betaine salicylate” attached to that percentage. It isn't a label for 4% salicylic acid. Some older reviews also convert it into an allegedly equivalent salicylic acid strength. We haven't verified a comparison that would justify treating this finished formula as interchangeable with another exfoliant on that basis.
For a practical comparison, put the complete ingredient names, product directions and your existing routine beside each other. A larger percentage alone doesn't tell you which formula will suit your skin, and the stated pH cannot promise that you won't experience irritation.
The same applies to niacinamide. Its presence can be relevant to the formula you're choosing, but it doesn't establish that you need a separate niacinamide serum alongside it. Buy an additional step for a reason you can identify, rather than to complete an ingredient collection.
How COSRX says to introduce it
The current directions place the liquid after cleansing, in the toner or essence position. Let it absorb fully before applying the next skincare product. COSRX recommends starting at two to three times a week, then adjusting use according to skin condition. Its daytime instructions also require sunscreen.
That starting schedule is more useful than copying a reviewer's everyday routine. You don't have to work toward daily use to make the purchase worthwhile. Follow the package you receive and keep the surrounding products familiar while you assess it.
There is no fixed 30-minute wait in the current directions. Absorption is the stated cue for the next step. Nor does the page give a universal pump count that we can translate into a precise dose for every face. Avoid turning another person's application habit into an extra rule.
The liquid is left on during normal use. Don't copy a scrub's rinse-off method or use friction to make the application feel more active. Follow it with your usual moisturizer, keeping any prescribed skincare instructions in place.
Check combinations before you open it
COSRX advises against using the liquid with other acids, retinol or vitamin C. Check the actual products you own: an exfoliating toner is still an exfoliant even if the bottle looks like an everyday watery step. Matching COSRX labels don't make two acid products automatic companions.
If you already have a treatment schedule, ask your clinician or pharmacist where a proposed exfoliant fits before changing it. We aren't giving a universal alternate-night plan; that would ignore the products, strengths and instructions involved.
The AAD's exfoliation advice also warns that exfoliating alongside retinol or benzoyl peroxide can worsen dryness. It advises against exfoliating sunburned skin or areas with open cuts. A comfortable routine comes before adding another acid.
The product's own FAQ says to avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Follow that product-specific restriction and take questions about alternatives to your healthcare professional. That is different from using this page to make a general rule about every acid product.
Published reviews are useful when you keep their limits
The three reviews we read show why a simple average would hide useful detail.
Blush & Pearls reports a positive month of use, including an easy-spreading texture and perceived improvement in blackheads. The writer used it every morning and discloses affiliate links. Those are personal observations; the article's broad benefit claims and salicylate-strength conversion aren't independent clinical evidence.
Yue Rain's September 2019 review describes a much less satisfying experience, including an unpleasant scent and repeated breakouts. The writer says the product was purchased and discloses affiliate links. The printed ingredient list differs from today's official list, and the account cannot establish what caused the breakouts.
StarSandSeaShells' 2015 review describes a positive experience with several products in the routine. Its 30-minute wait, historical price and star score aren't current product instructions or a forecast for another reader.
What can you take from them? Pay attention to the liquid's feel, whether you want a pump, and how easily an exfoliant fits among your other steps. Treat dramatic before-and-after language more cautiously. Different formulas, routines and personal responses can't be flattened into a promise that a popular bottle will work for you.
What if your skin gets worse?
Don't assume that itching, a rash or worsening discomfort proves the product is working. “Purging” is not a diagnosis you can make from a product name or a comment section.
The AAD recommends trying new skincare on a small area first. Keep this exfoliant's own frequency restrictions in view rather than automatically applying a general twice-daily trial schedule to it. A small-area check cannot guarantee future facial tolerance.
If a reaction develops, wash the product off and stop using it. Seek professional advice for a severe or persistent reaction, or if you're uncertain what the change means. There is no need to finish a bottle to justify the money already spent.
Our Korean skincare routine for acne-prone skin helps separate everyday cleansing and moisturizing from treatment decisions. That is a better next step when the whole routine needs attention, rather than one optional exfoliant.
BHA Power Liquid or AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner?
These are separate formulas. The Clarifying Treatment Toner comes in a 150 ml spray bottle and lists glycolic acid as well as betaine salicylate. Its directions say to spray onto a cotton pad and gently wipe the face, avoiding eyes and mouth.
Don't buy it as a required preparatory step for BHA Power Liquid. Both official pages carry warnings about combining exfoliating products. The names “toner” and “power liquid” don't create a need for two acid layers, and their bottle sizes don't establish equivalent strengths.
If the different COSRX liquids are blurring together, our guide to the COSRX range separates exfoliants from hydrating toner, essence and moisturizer purchases.
Check the offer as carefully as the formula
At our September 8 check, the official 100 ml bottle showed a $17.50 sale price against $25, but was sold out. The listing also displayed a June 19, 2027 expiration date. Those details belong together: the low price alone doesn't establish a currently available bargain.
Check the exact seller's size, expiration information and delivered price. A 100 ml bottle can be a substantial commitment for a product you use only a few times weekly, but we can't turn that into a reliable number of months without knowing your amount per application. Don't assume another retailer's stock shares the official store's displayed expiration date.
Before ordering, be able to answer two questions: what would this exfoliant replace or add, and which days could you use it without conflicting with your existing products? If those answers are clear, compare the current offer. If they aren't, sorting out the routine is likely to be more useful than adding the bottle.
How often to exfoliate depends on the product: peeling gels 1-2 times a week, mild acid toners and BHA pads up to daily, plus signs you're overdoing it.
