Aestura Atobarrier 365 vs Illiyoon: Aestura for very dry faces, Illiyoon for value
Updated October 22, 2026
For very dry or easily irritated facial skin, Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream is our pick: it is positioned for dry and very dry faces, adds squalane, keeps plant extracts to a minimum, and has a richer Cream Plus sibling if you need more. For dry skin on a budget, or dryness that runs from your cheeks to your shins, Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream does the same core job for under a third of the price per ml, in a 200 ml tube made for face and body.
Both brands belong to Amorepacific, and the two formulas share more than most shoppers expect: the same ceramide-like lipid, cholesterol, phytosphingosine and fatty acids, with no fragrance in either ingredient list. The real differences are texture, the extras around that lipid core, and how much cream you get for your money.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested either cream; texture descriptions are the brands', and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What is the difference between Aestura Atobarrier 365 and Illiyoon Ceramide Ato cream?
Aestura is a face cream for dry and very dry skin, with squalane, fewer plant extracts and a higher price; Illiyoon is a face-and-body cream with more plant extracts and a much lower price per ml.
A quick term first. Ceramides are fats found naturally in the skin's outer layer, where they sit alongside cholesterol and fatty acids and help slow water loss. Many creams use ceramide-like lipids, lab-made molecules shaped to do a similar job. Hydroxypropyl bispalmitamide MEA, which Illiyoon labels "Ceramide PC-104", is one of them, and it appears in both creams: 11th in Aestura's list and 14th in Illiyoon's.
Formulas side by side
Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream, 80 ml opens with water, glycerin, butylene glycol, butylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, cyclopentasiloxane and squalane. Glycerin and butylene glycol are humectants, which draw water into the skin's surface. The esters and the silicone after them help the cream spread and feel soft, and squalane is a light oil for dry-feeling skin. Further down come hydroxypropyl bispalmitamide MEA, a second ceramide-like lipid (hydroxypropyl bislauramide MEA), cholesterol, allantoin, phytosphingosine, and stearic, palmitic and oleic acids.
One detail to check: the product description mentions ceramide NP in the capsules, but ceramide NP isn't in the ingredient list on the product page. If that specific ceramide matters to you, read the carton.
Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream, 200 ml opens with water, butylene glycol, glycerin, dimethicone, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, hydrogenated poly(C6-14 olefin), stearic acid, behenyl alcohol and palmitic acid. That is the same humectant-plus-emollient structure, with dimethicone in place of Aestura's lighter cyclic silicones. After Ceramide PC-104, the list adds cholesterol, ceramide NP, phytosphingosine and hydrogenated lecithin. Squalane isn't listed.
So each cream has two ceramide ingredients. Aestura's are both lab-made ceramide-like lipids; Illiyoon pairs one of those with ceramide NP, which matches a ceramide found naturally in skin.
The extras differ more than the core. Illiyoon includes ginseng root water and extracts of perilla seed, bupleurum root, angelica root, ophiopogon root and rosemary leaf, plus small amounts of soybean and canola oil. Aestura's original cream has fewer botanicals, mainly carnauba wax extract mid-list and sappanwood stem powder near the end. If you prefer a short list of plant extracts, that tilts toward Aestura.
The moisture numbers come from different sources. Aestura reports moisturization measured for up to 120 hours after application in human application testing, and our Illiyoon page cites a 100-hour moisturizing claim published by Boots and Seoul Plus. Those are different tests, so they don't settle which cream lasts longer on your face.
Texture and directions
Aestura describes the original 365 Cream as a melting capsule cream with a fresh feel and a less-sticky finish. Its directions: morning and evening, after toner and serum, apply a pearl-sized amount to clean skin as your final moisturizing step. You can roll the capsules on the back of your hand first, then press the cream in until the visible capsules soften and melt.
Illiyoon describes a lightweight, non-sticky feel, with visible capsules that melt with your skin's temperature. Its directions: apply a generous amount to dry areas of the face or body and spread gently, pressing it in on the face. It's a leave-on cream with no fixed morning-or-night instruction.
Which is better for very dry skin, Aestura or Illiyoon?
For very dry facial skin, Aestura is the stronger choice on paper. Aestura positions the 365 Cream for dry, very dry and sensitive skin, while Illiyoon aims its cream at skin that feels dry or tight and stresses a light finish. Aestura's list also adds squalane, places its main ceramide-like lipid a little higher (11th against 14th) and carries fewer botanicals. Both have two ceramide ingredients, so that isn't where they differ.
Don't read too much into a few places in the list, though. Ingredient order only roughly tracks concentration, and ingredients below about 1% can be listed in any order. The two creams are closer than the price gap suggests.
If the original Aestura still leaves your cheeks tight by the afternoon, step up to Cream Plus rather than layering two creams. If your dryness is mostly on your body, or you go through moisturizer quickly, Illiyoon's large tube lets you apply generously and reapply, and for very dry skin that habit matters as much as the formula.
Is Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream or Cream Plus the better pick?
Start with the original 365 Cream unless you already know lighter creams fade on you; choose Cream Plus for a richer layer at night, in winter or on very dry patches.
Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream Plus, 90 ml builds on almost the same backbone: butylene glycol, glycerin, the same esters and silicone, squalane, both ceramide-like lipids, cholesterol and phytosphingosine. It adds a Bacillus/soybean ferment extract and myristic and arachidic acids near the end. Aestura credits two technologies, DermaON moisturizing capsules and Fila Green Barrier, for what it calls stronger barrier-focused moisture.
The clearer split is texture. Aestura describes the original as fresh and less sticky, and Cream Plus as rich moisture without a greasy, heavy finish, a cream that feels substantial as it settles. Cream Plus is labeled for all skin types, but Aestura says its richer texture especially suits dry, very dry or barrier-compromised skin. Its directions are the same twice-daily final step: spread evenly and pat until absorbed.
Price barely separates them: $27.99 for 80 ml versus $29.99 for 90 ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026. Cream Plus is actually slightly cheaper per ml, about $0.33 against $0.35, so choose by texture rather than cost.
Can Illiyoon Ceramide Ato cream be used on oily skin?
Yes. Illiyoon says the cream is intended for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and describes the finish as lightweight and non-sticky. Oily or combination skin that still feels tight after cleansing can use it, especially at night or as a thin layer on the cheeks.
It is still a cream built on emollients such as pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate and hydrogenated poly(C6-14 olefin), so the generous amount the directions suggest can feel like too much on an oily T-zone. Keep the face to a pea-sized amount and save the generous layer for your body.
If you want ceramides in a lighter format, both brands make one. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Soothing Gel, 175 ml is a fragrance-free face-and-body gel that Illiyoon says absorbs quickly without a greasy residue, with ceramide NP, glycerin and squalane named in its description; its full ingredient list isn't printed on our product page. Aestura Atobarrier 365 Hydro Soothing Cream, 60 ml is a gel moisturizer that Aestura recommends for oily, dehydrated and combination skin, built on glycerin, trehalose and amino acids with a matte, non-sticky finish. Our Korean moisturizer guide for oily skin has more options.
Which ceramide cream is better value per ml?
Illiyoon, by a wide margin. Prices at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026:
Illiyoon's cream costs under a third as much per ml as either Aestura cream, and because it is made for face and body, one tube covers far more ground. Aestura earns its price when you only need a face cream and want its very-dry positioning, the squalane and the shorter botanical list.
Should you pick Aestura or Illiyoon?
Pick Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream if:
you want a face cream for dry, very dry or easily irritated skin
you prefer fewer plant extracts in your moisturizer
you like having a richer step-up, Cream Plus, in the same line
Pick Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream if:
you want one cream for a dry face and dry body
you apply moisturizer generously or reapply during the day, so price per ml matters
you have combination skin and want a ceramide cream the brand describes as lightweight and non-sticky
If either cream stings, itches or leaves a rash, stop using it. Switching to the other may not help, since they share most of their lipid ingredients.
Quick answers
Are Aestura and Illiyoon fragrance-free?
Neither ingredient list includes fragrance (parfum), checked October 2026. Illiyoon says its cream has no added artificial fragrance but that raw ingredients may have their own scent, and its list includes rosemary leaf extract and several root extracts. Aestura's original cream lists fewer botanicals.
Do these creams contain alcohol?
Neither lists ethanol or alcohol denat. Both contain fatty alcohols such as behenyl and arachidyl alcohol, which are waxy thickeners rather than the drying kind.
Can you use Aestura or Illiyoon on your body?
Illiyoon is made for dry areas of the face and body. Aestura's directions cover the face, and an 80 ml cream would go quickly on arms and legs.
Can you use them under sunscreen?
Yes. Apply either as the last step before sunscreen in the morning, and give it a minute to settle so the SPF spreads evenly.
The original 365 Cream suits dry, sensitive skin; Cream Plus is richer and Hydro Soothing is a light gel. Ceramides, fragrance, sizes and prices compared.
