Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil: a buying review
Updated September 8, 2026
Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil is easier to judge with your evening makeup in mind than with close-up photos of your nose. Does a liquid first cleanser make removal easier? Can you rinse it comfortably? Those questions are more useful than whether you can massage visible bits out of your pores.
Our buying view: the original is worth considering if you want a pump-dispensed cleansing oil and you tolerate fragranced skincare. It isn't the obvious choice if you avoid fragrance, and the word “Mild” on the alternative bottle needs a closer look too. Neither version deserves a purchase on a promise of perfectly clear pores.
This review uses current US product information and published editorial reviews, checked in September 2026. Sleepy Hello has not tested the oil firsthand or combined customer ratings into a score.
Original or Mild? Read past “Heartleaf”
The bottle pictured here is Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, 200 mL. That is the original version covered by this review. is a separate formula, not simply the same oil with a different description.
Heartleaf Pore Cleansing Oil Mild
The original contains fragrance
Anua's current original formula lists ethylhexyl palmitate first, followed by sorbeth-30 tetraoleate and sorbitan sesquioleate. It also contains caprylic/capric triglyceride, several plant oils, heartleaf extract and Fragrance. The current US Ulta listing confirms fragrance in its ingredient list.
The practical distinction is that this is a formulated rinse-off cleanser. You add water during use; it isn't a bottle of plain facial oil that you leave on afterward. Heartleaf is one ingredient within that larger formula, so its presence alone doesn't tell you how the whole product will agree with your skin.
If fragrance has caused problems for you before, that is a reason to look elsewhere. If you enjoy scented skincare and tolerate it, the presence of fragrance isn't automatically a reason to reject it. Your own history matters more than either blanket rule.
Mild still contains rosemary leaf oil
Anua markets Heartleaf Pore Cleansing Oil Mild as fragrance-free. Its current list starts with ethylhexyl stearate, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate and cetyl ethylhexanoate, and includes Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil.
That matters if your shopping rule is to avoid aromatic plant oils as well as ingredients listed as fragrance. Mild's label doesn't make that decision for you. It may remain a candidate if you avoid added perfume, but you still need to read its full formula against your known triggers.
Don't assume the two versions rinse identically, feel identical or have the same tolerance just because both are Anua heartleaf oils. We haven't compared them on skin. There is enough difference in the lists to assess them as separate purchases.
How to use the original without making it a project
Gently massage over a dry face using circular movements.
Add water to emulsify the oil.
Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Follow with a water-based cleanser.
Emulsifying means bringing water into the oil before rinsing it away. You aren't trying to whip it into a fluffy foam. Dry application and the water step are different parts of the process; give each its place instead of massaging for longer and hoping that solves everything.
Use comfortably lukewarm water. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends fingertips, gentle cleansing and avoiding scrubbing in its face-washing advice.
For Mild, the oil-specific five-step walkthrough on Anua's page likewise starts with dry hands and a dry face, then emulsifying, rinsing and a water-based cleanser. Follow the instructions on the particular bottle you receive.
You don't have to use two cleansers in every morning and evening routine just because you've bought one cleansing oil. If you are still deciding whether a first cleanse is useful, our double-cleansing guide explains when the extra step earns its place.
Don't use “grits” as the success measure
Tiny bits on your fingers don't tell you exactly what you have removed. Nor does the absence of visible bits mean the cleanser failed. A home massage isn't a diagnostic test for the contents of your pores.
The more sensible check is whether the products you intended to remove have come off, with a comfortable rinse. This review found no basis for promising permanent blackhead removal, smaller pores or acne treatment from this bottle. We also haven't verified that massaging it for several extra minutes improves a meaningful outcome.
If you keep working over the same patch of nose because nothing dramatic has happened, stop chasing the demonstration. Scrubbing and prolonged attention to one area are not substitutes for a suitable cleanser. The AAD's advice to avoid scrubbing still applies when the product happens to be an oil.
Persistent blackheads or breakouts are a separate skincare question. Buying an oil mainly for that problem risks judging a makeup-removal purchase against a treatment result it hasn't established.
Three things to notice at the sink
These checks help separate an application problem from a reason to change products. They are observations for your own routine, not a performance test or a way to diagnose a skin condition.
Makeup left around the hairline or jaw
Notice where the residue remains. Did you actually spread the cleanser there, bring water through it and rinse that area? It is easy to give the middle of the face all the attention while missing the edges.
If the same stubborn makeup remains despite following the directions, check the makeup's removal instructions. A separate remover suited to that product may be more useful than repeated oil massages. We cannot promise that this formula removes every waterproof mascara or long-wear product equally well.
A film after rinsing
First check that you included the emulsifying step and rinsed thoroughly, rather than treating the oil as something to wipe away. Follow with your usual suitable water-based cleanser as Anua directs.
If that complete routine still leaves a finish you dislike, you don't need to force yourself to enjoy it. The goal isn't to learn to tolerate an annoying cleanser. Our Korean cleansing oil comparison gives you other formulas to consider when fragrance or rinse feel is the deciding factor.
Tightness, stinging or an uncomfortable eye area
Don't respond by making the second cleanse stronger or rubbing harder. Think about the whole washing routine, including the amount of cleansing, water temperature and second product. A clean-feeling face shouldn't require you to ignore discomfort.
Keep the oil out of your eyes, and stop using a product that causes a reaction. A reassuring “low-irritation” claim cannot promise a comfortable experience for everyone. Persistent or severe symptoms need medical advice, rather than another attempt to make a popular bottle work.
What published reviews can actually help with
A useful review gives context: which exact version was used, what the writer was removing and what happened during rinsing. A star rating supplies much less of that information.
Kaori's review describes the original's pump, texture, scent and the writer's experience. Those are personal observations, not evidence that your results will match. Its massage suggestions also aren't a reason to disregard your bottle's instructions or signs of irritation.
Mirai Skin's article describes the original as fragrance-free, which doesn't match the current US formula. The Beauty Briefing's assessment flags fragrance. That disagreement is a useful reminder to check the manufacturer's current list when a formula detail matters to you. Repetition in reviews isn't a substitute for checking the bottle.
The original and Mild reviews should not be pooled together as though they describe one product. Neither should a review of Anua's cleansing foam, toner or a complete routine settle whether this particular oil suits you. The shared brand name is not enough.
Before opening a full bottle
Check the full name, size and ingredient list on the seller's page. A lower displayed price may be for a smaller size, and a routine set may include products you weren't planning to buy. Compare the total purchase you will actually make. This review's cover shows the original 200 mL bottle, not Mild or a travel size.
If you are introducing it to reactive skin, the AAD offers guidance for trying a new skincare product on a small area. It recommends a small-area trial before wider use and keeping rinse-off products on only for the appropriate contact time. A home check doesn't guarantee tolerance or rule out an allergy. Known triggers should be avoided, not deliberately tested again.
You also don't need the matching Anua second cleanser or toner to make the purchase complete. Keeping the rest of an already comfortable routine familiar makes the new oil easier to assess.
The best reason to buy this particular bottle is a practical one: you want the original Anua liquid oil for your evening removal step, and its formula fits your preferences. If the attraction is mainly the promise of something dramatic coming out of your nose, leave it out of the cart.
