Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil review: the original for value, Deep Clean for oily skin
Updated October 22, 2026
Buy the original Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil if you want the better value and a soybean-oil blend that Ma:nyo positions for all skin types: it's $16.99 for 200 ml. Choose Pure Cleansing Oil Deep Clean ($19.99) if your skin is oily and you'd rather have a shorter, lighter formula built on grape seed oil and light esters, which the brand aims at visible blackheads and oily, acne-prone skin.
Neither bottle exfoliates, and neither replaces a leave-on BHA if blackheads are your main concern. Both are first-cleanse oils: they loosen makeup, sunscreen and oily residue on a dry face, turn milky with water and rinse off.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested these oils; texture descriptions are Ma:nyo's, and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What's in Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil?
Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil, 200 ml is a pump-bottle cleansing oil made mostly of plant oils. The 25-ingredient list on matches ours. The first ten are soybean oil, hazel seed oil, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, grape seed oil, olive fruit oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, squalane, isoamyl laurate, camellia japonica seed oil and evening primrose oil.
Sorbeth-30 tetraoleate is the one worth knowing. It's the emulsifier, the ingredient that lets oil mix with water, so the clear oil turns milky when you add water and rinses away instead of sitting on your skin. Caprylic/capric triglyceride and isoamyl laurate are light emollients that make the blend thinner and easier to spread than straight soybean or olive oil.
Further down, the list adds jojoba, sunflower, argan, babassu (orbignya oleifera) and rice bran oils, plus soapwort leaf extract and decyl glucoside, two mild cleansing ingredients that help the rinse. Green tea, ginkgo and aloe extracts and rice ferment filtrate (sake) sit in the lower half of the list. Count the lavender, orange and tea tree oils as well and you get the 14 plant oils the product page mentions.
On fragrance: the list doesn't include "fragrance" or "parfum," but Ma:nyo doesn't call the oil fragrance-free either. The ingredient list includes lavender, orange and tea tree leaf oils, which are aromatic essential oils. If essential oils usually bother you, that's the line to read before you buy.
The price is $16.99 for 200 ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026, which works out to about 8.5 cents per ml.
What is the difference between Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil and Deep Clean?
The difference is the base. The original is a soybean-led blend of plant oils, while Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil Deep Clean, 200 ml leads with grape seed oil and then relies on lightweight emollients and a solvent. It's also a much shorter list: 17 ingredients against 25.
The Deep Clean list starts with grape seed oil, ethylhexyl palmitate, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, cetyl ethylhexanoate, isododecane and dicaprylyl ether, followed by hazelnut, black cumin seed and sunflower seed oils. Here's what the less familiar names do:
Ethylhexyl palmitate and cetyl ethylhexanoate are esters, light oily liquids that feel thinner than plant oils. Ethylhexyl palmitate is also the first ingredient in the Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, 200 ml.
Isododecane is a very light, fast-evaporating solvent that's widely used in long-wear makeup. It's the main reason Deep Clean should feel less rich than the original.
Dicaprylyl ether is a quick-spreading emollient that adds slip while you massage.
Candida bombicola/glucose/methyl rapeseedate ferment is a sophorolipid, a cleansing ingredient made by yeast fermentation. It does a similar helper job to the soapwort and decyl glucoside in the original.
Both versions use the same emulsifier, so both are designed to turn milky with water. Ma:nyo describes Deep Clean as a "deep-yet-lightweight cleanse" with a smooth massage feel, positions it for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin, and lists it as EVE Vegan certified. The brand also publishes its own figure of 99.7% of pollution and dust removed from the skin surface; the test method isn't given on the product page.
Fragrance follows the same pattern as the original. There's no "fragrance" on the label, but the list includes bergamot and lavender oils plus linalool and limonene, which are scent components named separately on ingredient lists.
Deep Clean costs $19.99 for 200 ml at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026, or 10 cents per ml. That's $3 more per bottle than the original.
Ma:nyo's third oil at Sleepy Hello, Herb Green Cleansing Oil, 200 ml, goes in another direction. It's soybean-based like the original but leans much harder on essential oils: green tea leaf, mugwort, sage, tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender and patchouli oils, plus olibanum. Ma:nyo describes a refreshing, non-sticky finish for all skin types. It's $19.99 for 200 ml and was out of stock at Sleepy Hello in October 2026. We'd only put it on the shortlist if you like an herbal scent and know essential oils don't bother you.
How do you use Ma:nyo cleansing oil?
Apply it with dry hands to a dry face, massage, add a little water until it turns milky, then rinse. The directions for the original on our product page:
Pump three to four times onto dry hands and massage over dry skin in slow circles, working around the nose where blackheads show.
Add a little lukewarm water and keep massaging until the oil turns opaque and milky.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Follow with a water-based cleanser, then the rest of your routine.
Deep Clean's directions are nearly the same, with "a few pumps" and one timing: after adding water, massage for about 40 seconds until the oil turns milky. Herb Green asks for about four pumps and the same 40-second emulsifying step.
Two details matter more than the pump count. Start dry, because water on your hands or face makes the oil emulsify before it has dissolved your makeup. And don't skip the milky stage: emulsifying is what lets the oil rinse cleanly, so splashing and rinsing straight away leaves more residue behind.
The product page also suggests using it in the evening on days you wear makeup or sunscreen, keeping it out of your eyes, avoiding the lash line if you wear extensions, and trying it on a small area of your jaw first if essential oils usually bother you.
Is Ma:nyo cleansing oil good for blackheads?
It can help the look of blackheads as part of a routine, but it doesn't exfoliate and won't clear them on its own. Ma:nyo's US page says the original "melts away blackheads and whiteheads," and the directions tell you to spend extra time around your nose. Deep Clean's page says it helps reduce the visible look of blackheads and pores.
Here's the formula view. A blackhead is a pore plug of hardened sebum whose surface has darkened in the air. Oil dissolves oil, so a slow massage can soften and lift the top of that plug and the oily residue around it, which is where oil cleansers get their reputation. But neither bottle contains salicylic acid (BHA), the oil-soluble acid that works inside the pore over repeated use. The realistic expectation is a smoother-looking nose after a thorough cleanse, not pores that stay clear.
If blackheads are your main reason for buying, our take is to use either oil in the evening and add a BHA product a few times a week. Ma:nyo's own combined option is the Blackhead Pure Cleansing Oil Kill Pad, 50 pads: rinse-off cleansing-oil pads with salicylic acid listed as the main active, plus AHA and PHA. Ma:nyo doesn't publish the acid percentages on our page, and the full ingredient list isn't printed there either.
The pads are dual-sided. For daily makeup removal you massage with the embossed side, rinse, and follow with a facial cleanser. For focused pore care two to three times a week, you massage the area for about 10 seconds, lightly wet the pad, wipe with the smooth side and rinse. That makes them the tidier travel format, with nothing to pump. The container is labeled 200 ml for 50 pads, more than the 3.4 oz liquids allowance, so check current TSA guidance before you put it in a carry-on. The pads cost $27.99 for 50 (about 56 cents a pad) and were out of stock at Sleepy Hello in October 2026.
Is Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil good for oily skin?
Yes, it can suit oily skin, and Ma:nyo says the original is suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone skin. A cleansing oil shouldn't leave your face oily when it's emulsified and rinsed properly, because the emulsifier carries the oil away with the water.
For oily skin, the real question is which bottle. The original is heavier on rich plant oils such as soybean and olive. That's fine in a rinse-off, but if you dislike any lingering slip, Deep Clean's ester-and-isododecane base is the lighter design, and it's the version Ma:nyo positions specifically for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin.
If you're breakout-prone, two habits matter more than the label: emulsify fully and rinse well, especially along the hairline and jaw, then follow with a water-based cleanser. If new bumps appear after switching, compare ingredient lists before writing off oil cleansing; the original contains soybean and olive oils, and Deep Clean contains neither.
For combination skin either bottle works. Give the T-zone the extra massage time and keep it brief on drier cheeks.
Do you need a second cleanser after Ma:nyo oil?
Usually yes, on days you've worn makeup or sunscreen. The original's directions end with a water-based cleanser, and the Kill Pad's directions call for a facial cleanser afterward. Deep Clean is more relaxed: Ma:nyo says you can finish with the oil or follow with a foam cleanser depending on your skin type, heavy makeup use or breakout tendency.
That second step, the double cleanse, clears sweat and water-based residue plus any film the oil left behind. On evenings when you've worn only moisturizer, the oil alone is often enough.
Choose a gentle second cleanser so the pair doesn't leave your face tight:
Ma:nyo Pure Soybean Cleansing Foam, 160 ml is the brand's own partner. Ma:nyo describes a mildly alkaline foam with a dense microbubble lather, and its directions name it as the second step of a double cleanse. It's $11.99 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026.
COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, 150 ml is a gel wash built on two mild cleansing agents, cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate, and its ingredient list includes tea tree leaf oil. It's $9.69 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026.
Quick answers
Does Ma:nyo cleansing oil remove waterproof makeup?
Not reliably on its own, as far as Ma:nyo says: the brand makes no waterproof claim for either oil. On paper Deep Clean is the better match, because isododecane is the kind of solvent many long-wear formulas use. For waterproof mascara, use a separate eye makeup remover, since the original's directions say to keep the oil out of your eyes.
Is Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil fragrance-free?
No "fragrance" is listed, but it does contain scent ingredients: lavender, orange and tea tree leaf oils. Deep Clean lists bergamot and lavender oils with linalool and limonene, and Herb Green has the most essential oils of the three.
Is the original or Deep Clean better value?
The original. It's $16.99 for 200 ml, about 8.5 cents per ml, against $19.99 or 10 cents per ml for Deep Clean, checked October 2026. Pay the extra $3 only if the lighter, ester-based formula is what you're after.
Can you use Ma:nyo cleansing oil every day?
Yes. Neither set of directions limits how often. Our product page suggests the original for evenings when you wear makeup or sunscreen, Ma:nyo's US page says it also works as a morning cleanser, and Deep Clean's directions give no time of day. The Kill Pad is different: its targeted pore-care routine is two to three times a week.
Can you use it with lash extensions?
Our product page says to avoid the lash line if you wear extensions, so cleanse around your eyes with whatever your lash technician recommends.
