Ma:nyo vs Anua Cleansing Oil: Anua for oily skin, Ma:nyo Pure for drier skin
Updated October 22, 2026
For oily or combination skin that mostly needs sunscreen and light makeup off, Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil is the lighter pick, and its fragrance-free Mild version is the one to buy if your skin is easily irritated. Ma:nyo positions Pure Cleansing Oil for all skin types, but our take, based on its plant-oil base, is that it suits normal to drier skin and fuller makeup best, while Ma:nyo's Deep Clean version is the brand's lighter answer for oily skin.
All four bottles hold 200 ml and cost between $15.99 and $19.99 at Sleepy Hello, so price isn't what separates them. The ingredient lists are.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested these oils; texture descriptions are the brands', and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
What is the difference between Ma:nyo and Anua cleansing oil?
The main difference is what does the dissolving: Ma:nyo's original is led by plant oils, Anua's by lightweight esters. opens with soybean oil and hazel seed oil, then sorbeth-30 tetraoleate (the emulsifier that lets oil turn milky with water), grape seed oil, olive fruit oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride and squalane. Camellia, evening primrose, jojoba, sunflower, argan, babassu and rice bran oils follow. Count them and the list holds eleven carrier oils plus three essential oils.
Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil, 200 ml starts with ethylhexyl palmitate, an ester. Esters are synthetic emollients that spread thin and feel less oily than most plant oils. Next come two emulsifiers (sorbeth-30 tetraoleate and sorbitan sesquioleate), caprylic/capric triglyceride and butyl avocadate, with sunflower, macadamia, olive, jojoba and grape seed oils after them. Heartleaf (houttuynia cordata) extract, three neem extracts, turmeric root extract and moringa seed oil sit near the end, in small amounts.
In plain terms, Ma:nyo Pure is the richer, more traditional oil and Anua is the thinner one. Ma:nyo says its oil melts makeup and sunscreen, emulsifies with water and rinses clean. Anua positions its oil as a lightweight first cleanse that turns milky and rinses without a heavy finish.
Scent differs too. Ma:nyo Pure lists lavender, orange and tea tree leaf oils, with no separate fragrance entry. Anua's original contains added fragrance; the separate Mild version has none added.
The directions are close but not identical. Ma:nyo asks for three to four pumps on dry hands, massaged over dry skin in slow circles with extra time around the nose, then a little lukewarm water until the oil turns opaque and milky, a thorough rinse and a water-based cleanser. Anua asks for two to three pumps on a dry face, the same add-water-and-rinse step, and a water-based cleanser to finish an evening double cleanse.
What is the difference between Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil and Deep Clean?
Deep Clean trades most of the original's plant oils for lighter esters and thin emollients, so it is the Ma:nyo to choose for oily skin. Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil Deep Clean, 200 ml opens with grape seed oil, then ethylhexyl palmitate, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, cetyl ethylhexanoate, isododecane and dicaprylyl ether. Those last three (an ester, a hydrocarbon and an ether) are thin, fast-spreading emollients; isododecane, the hydrocarbon, evaporates, adding slip without weight.
Hazelnut, black cumin and sunflower seed oils follow, then bergamot and lavender oils, a fermented biosurfactant (candida bombicola/glucose/methyl rapeseedate ferment, a sugar-derived cleansing agent), butylene glycol, tocopherol, water, linalool and limonene.
Ma:nyo describes Deep Clean as deep yet lightweight, with a smooth massage feel that turns milky for a thorough rinse, and positions it for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin. Its directions add one useful detail: after adding water, keep massaging for about 40 seconds until the oil turns milky. Ma:nyo also says Deep Clean is EVE Vegan certified.
Both versions carry scent from essential oils. The original has lavender, orange and tea tree; Deep Clean has bergamot and lavender plus linalool and limonene, two fragrance components. Neither is a fragrance-free choice.
What is the difference between Anua Heartleaf cleansing oil and the Mild version?
The Mild version is a shorter, fragrance-free formula, not a diluted copy of the original. Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil Mild, 200 ml has twelve ingredients: ethylhexyl stearate, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, cetyl ethylhexanoate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, triethylhexanoin, isododecane, water, rosemary leaf oil, sorbitan sesquioleate, tocopherol, sunflower seed oil and heartleaf extract.
The original runs to twenty-two entries, including added fragrance, macadamia, olive, jojoba and grape seed oils, turmeric and the three neem extracts. Mild drops all of those, keeps sunflower oil and heartleaf as minor ingredients, and adds rosemary leaf oil. Rosemary leaf oil is an essential oil with its own aroma, so "fragrance-free" here means no added perfume rather than no scent at all. The carton badges Mild for sensitive skin.
The directions differ slightly. Both start with two or three pumps on a dry face and end with a water-based cleanser, but Anua directs Mild for morning and evening use, while the original is framed as an evening first cleanse. The price gap is a dollar: $15.99 for the original and $16.99 for Mild.
Which cleansing oil is better for blackheads?
Neither oil clears blackheads by itself, so pick the one you will happily massage around your nose each evening; for oily skin that is Anua's original or Ma:nyo Deep Clean. None of the four lists contains salicylic acid or any other exfoliating acid. An oil cleanser dissolves the sebum, sunscreen and makeup sitting on and around the pore opening, which is why both brands tell you to work the nose with dry hands before adding water.
Anua publishes its own figure for the original: a 21.6% reduction in measured blackhead count after one use. That is the brand's test, and the study details aren't printed beside it, so read it as a positioning claim rather than a head-to-head result. We found no comparable blackhead figure on the Ma:nyo pages we checked; Deep Clean's published result is about removing pollution and dust.
For the plugs themselves, the usual partner is a leave-on BHA a few nights a week, after the second cleanse. Our Korean skincare for blackheads guide covers that step. Keep the massage light during the cleanse and follow each brand's timing. Anua's copy for the original asks for a light, brief massage, Ma:nyo Deep Clean gives about 40 seconds once water goes on, and the Mild directions say it plainly: pressing harder won't empty a pore any faster.
Size, price per ml and how long a bottle lasts
All four are 200 ml (6.7 fl oz) pump bottles. At Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026:
The dose matters more than the shelf price. Ma:nyo's directions for the original use more pumps per cleanse (three to four against Anua's two to three), but neither brand publishes how much one pump dispenses, so we can't promise which bottle lasts longer or a number of weeks.
Ma:nyo or Anua: our pick by skin type and makeup
Oily or combination skin, sunscreen and light makeup: Anua Heartleaf original. It is ester-led, the brand calls it lightweight, and it is the lowest price of the four.
Easily irritated skin, or you avoid fragrance: Anua Mild. Twelve ingredients and no added fragrance, with rosemary leaf oil as the one aromatic ingredient.
Normal to dry skin, or a full face of makeup: Ma:nyo Pure. Ma:nyo calls it suitable for all skin types; our take is that its plant-oil base, the richest here, suits drier skin, and the three-to-four-pump massage suits heavier makeup days.
Oily skin, but you want Ma:nyo: Deep Clean, the brand's lighter version built on esters and thin emollients, for $3 more than the original.
You like an essential-oil scent: either Ma:nyo; skip Anua Mild.
Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil Mild is the better fit for easily irritated skin, because it has the shortest list of the four and no added fragrance. To be fair to Ma:nyo, the brand positions Deep Clean for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin, but Deep Clean lists bergamot and lavender oils with linalool and limonene, so Mild stays our pick. Mild does contain rosemary leaf oil, an essential oil. Ma:nyo Pure lists lavender, orange and tea tree oils, and Anua's original contains added fragrance. Try any new cleanser on a small area of your jaw first.
Do you need a second cleanser after either oil?
Yes, on days you wear makeup or sunscreen. Ma:nyo Pure and both Anua oils direct a water-based cleanser afterwards; for Deep Clean, Ma:nyo leaves the second step up to your skin type, makeup and breakout tendency. A water-based foam such as Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Pore Deep Cleansing Foam, 150 ml ($10.99 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026) finishes the double cleanse. It contains 0.5% BHA (salicylic acid), so Anua suggests sensitive skin, or skin new to exfoliating cleansers, start two or three times a week. Our double cleansing guide explains the order.
Can you use cleansing oil in the morning?
You can with Anua Mild, which Anua directs for morning and evening use; Anua's original and Ma:nyo Pure are framed as evening cleansers for makeup and sunscreen days. If your skin only has last night's moisturizer on it, a water-based cleanser alone is usually enough in the morning.
Does Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil have fragrance?
The original contains added fragrance; the Mild version has none added. If you are avoiding fragrance, check that the label says Mild.
Is Ma:nyo Pure Cleansing Oil fragrance-free?
No. It has no separate fragrance entry, but its list includes lavender, orange and tea tree leaf oils, which carry their own scent.
