Is Haruharu Wonder good? Yes for budget hydration: which toner, cream and oil to buy
Updated October 22, 2026
Haruharu Wonder is a good, fairly priced brand for simple hydration, and most people should start with the fragrance-free Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner for Sensitive Skin, 150 ml rather than the lavender-scented original. Dry skin can then add the unscented Black Rice 10 Hyaluronic Cream, while oily skin is better served by the Centella 5% Niacinamide Radiance Gel Cream and the Airyfit sunscreen than by the brand's creams and facial oil.
Where the brand is ordinary is the story on the bottle. Fermented black rice is the headline, but the formulas do most of their work with familiar moisture ingredients such as betaine, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and plant oils. Several products also come as a scented original and an unscented counterpart with nearly the same name, so most of this guide is about which bottle to buy.
This is a researched comparison of current US brand and retailer information, checked October 2026. We haven't worn or tested these products; texture descriptions are the brand's, and the buying advice comes from comparing formulas, directions, sizes and prices.
Is Haruharu Wonder a good brand?
Yes, if what you want is light, layerable moisture at a low price. Most of the line sits between $9 and $21 at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026, and the toners cost $11.99 for 150 ml, which works out to about eight cents per ml.
Three things count in its favor. First, the labels are unusually specific: several products print ingredient amounts in ppm (parts per million, so 10,000 ppm equals 1%). Second, the brand sells fragrance-free versions of its scented originals. Third, the products are built for layering, with toners you can pat on two or three times and an oil you can mix into a cream.
The ordinary part is the black rice itself. The Sensitive toner prints its rice extract at 2,000 ppm, or 0.2%, and the 10 Hyaluronic Cream 90 ml prints 10,000 ppm, or 1%. Those are modest amounts, so think of black rice as the line's theme rather than the reason it works. Our take: buy Haruharu Wonder for well-priced basics, not for a single standout ingredient.
What is the difference between Haruharu Wonder Black Rice toner and the sensitive version?
The Sensitive version is a separate fragrance-free formula: it drops the alcohol, lavender oil, limonene and linalool, reorders the rest, and sells at the same price. Limonene and linalool are scent compounds declared from the lavender oil that gives the original its lavender scent.
The original Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, 150 ml lists water, betaine, glycerin, propanediol, rice extract, moso bamboo shoot bark extract, aspergillus ferment, ginseng root extract, cyclodextrin and Scutellaria baicalensis root extract, followed by hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan. Near the end, the list includes alcohol, lavender oil, limonene and linalool. Betaine and glycerin are humectants, ingredients that draw water into the top layer of skin, and beta-glucan is a moisture-binding sugar.
The Sensitive toner opens with the same four ingredients, water, betaine, glycerin and propanediol, then moves Scutellaria baicalensis root extract up to fifth place, ahead of rice extract (2,000 ppm), bamboo shoot bark extract (2,000 ppm), xanthan gum and cellulose gum, with hyaluronic acid printed at 600 ppm. The alcohol, lavender oil, limonene and linalool are gone, and so are the two polyglyceryl ingredients the original uses to blend its oil into water. Sodium gluconate also replaces the original's sodium phytate; both are minor stabilizers. Haruharu Wonder describes both toners as light and watery with a cooling feel.
Directions are nearly the same: after cleansing, apply evenly, pat until absorbed and leave it on, with two or three layers for more hydration. The original's page also allows sweeping it on with a cotton pad.
Sizes and prices at Sleepy Hello, checked October 2026:
Since the price is identical, we'd pick the Sensitive bottle for almost everyone. The original only makes sense if you like the lavender scent and already know your skin is comfortable with essential oils. Our Black Rice toner review goes deeper on this one product.
Black Rice 10 Hyaluronic Cream: scented, unscented or 90 ml?
The "10" counts types of hyaluronic acid, not strength. The scented 90 ml cream prints eight hyaluronic forms with amounts, from sodium hyaluronate at 240 ppm down to sodium acetylated hyaluronate at 2 ppm, so each one is a small amount. Its list opens with water, caprylic/capric triglyceride (a light emollient usually made from coconut oil), safflower seed oil, evening primrose oil, propanediol, sorbitan olivate, cetearyl olivate, polyglyceryl-3 stearate and rice extract at 10,000 ppm. Cetearyl alcohol appears too; it is a waxy fatty alcohol that thickens creams, not a drying alcohol. Lavender oil, linalool and limonene appear later in the list.
Haruharu Wonder describes the cream as white and mild, spreading smoothly to a soft, non-sticky finish, and calls the unscented version's finish a lightweight satin. For the unscented jar, the brand says to apply a small amount over face and neck morning and evening after toner, massage gently, then tap and press until absorbed.
Two label notes before you buy. Our unscented page publishes only key ingredients (fermented black rice, fermented bamboo shoot bark, ten hyaluronic acids, safflower and evening primrose oils) and a free-from list, so check the carton if you avoid something specific. And the scented 50 ml and 90 ml lists differ in order, with "alcohol" only on the 50 ml list, so compare boxes rather than assuming sizes match.
On price, the 90 ml is the best value at $19.99, about 22 cents per ml against 28 cents for the unscented 50 ml, but we only carry the 90 ml in the scented version.
If your skin feels rough and tight rather than just thirsty, look at the Black Rice 5 Ceramide Barrier Moisturizing Cream, 50 ml instead ($15.99). It is unscented and prints ceramide NP at 10,105 ppm (about 1%), plus four more ceramides, cholesterol and phytosphingosine in smaller amounts. Ceramides are the fats that hold skin cells together in the outer layer; the brand describes capsules that melt as you massage the cream in.
Facial oil, Probiotics essence and cleansing oil: who needs them?
None of these three is essential, but each has a clear job.
The Black Rice Facial Oil, 30 ml ($16.99) is for dry skin that still feels tight after moisturizer. Rice bran oil comes first, and the 10 ml page puts it at 45% of the formula, followed by sunflower seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, triolein, heptyl undecylenate and glyceryl dioleate. The list includes lavender oil, camellia seed oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba and macadamia seed oil esters, and vitamin E, so skip it if you avoid essential oils or nut-derived oils. The brand calls it a fast-absorbing dry oil with a non-greasy glow. Use two or three drops as the last step, avoiding the eye area, or mix a few drops into your moisturizer. A 10 ml bottle costs $7.49 if you want to try it first.
The Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence, 120 ml ($17.99) is a milky, fragrance-free step between toner and cream. It is closer to a light lotion than a watery essence: its list opens with water, butylene glycol, sunflower seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hydrogenated polyisobutene and meadowfoam seed oil. The "probiotics" are ferment filtrates, Galactomyces and Bifida, each printed at 1,000 ppm, alongside five ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, panthenol, squalane and hydrolyzed wheat protein. Shake it, then pat it on morning and evening. Haruharu Wonder suggests two or three layers for dry skin, or using it as a light moisturizer on oily skin.
The Black Rice Moisture Cleansing Oil, 150 ml ($14.99) is an unscented first cleanse with nine ingredients: rice bran oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, sunflower seed oil, olive fruit oil, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, jojoba seed oil, macadamia seed oil, vitamin E and ethylhexylglycerin. Sorbeth-30 tetraoleate is the emulsifier that turns the oil milky with water so it rinses off. Massage it onto a dry face for about 30 seconds, add a little water, massage again, rinse, and follow with a water-based cleanser if you double cleanse.
Is Haruharu Wonder good for oily skin?
Parts of it are. The Black Rice creams and facial oil are built on plant oils and suit drier skin, but the brand also makes lighter, unscented products that fit oily and combination skin.
The Centella 5% Niacinamide Radiance Gel Cream, 40 g ($8.99) is the pick. It sits in the Centella line, not the Black Rice line, and its list opens with water, niacinamide (5%), propanediol, centella leaf water (3.8%), glycerin, butylene glycol dicaprylate/dicaprate and squalane (2%), with madecassoside at 1,000 ppm, panthenol, xylitol and vitamin C (ascorbic acid) further down. Niacinamide is vitamin B3, used for a more even-looking tone. The brand describes a soft, cooling gel cream with no greasy finish, free from fragrance, alcohol and parabens. The 90 g jar costs $19.99, about the same per gram, so the 40 g is the sensible first buy.
For daytime, the Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen Unscented SPF50+, 50 ml ($13.99) is labeled SPF50+/PA++++ and uses chemical filters, including ethylhexyl triazone, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine and polysilicone-15. The brand describes a velvety, semi-matte finish with no white cast. Apply two finger lengths over face and neck after moisturizer, wait 30 to 40 seconds before makeup, and reapply every two hours. If you prefer mineral filters, the Pure Mineral Relief Daily Sunscreen Unscented SPF50+, 50 ml ($13.99) uses non-nano zinc oxide, and the brand notes some white cast may show at first.
Either toner also suits oily skin, since both are watery, and oily skin can usually skip the facial oil and the 90 ml cream.
Which Haruharu Wonder product should I start with?
Start with the Sensitive toner, then add one product for your skin type.
Everyone: the Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner for Sensitive Skin, 150 ml at $11.99, or the 30 ml at $4.99 as a trial.
Dry or dehydrated skin: add the unscented 10 Hyaluronic Cream, or the 5 Ceramide cream if skin feels rough and tight. Very dry skin can add two drops of facial oil at night.
Oily or combination skin: add the Centella gel cream and the Airyfit sunscreen.
Makeup or water-resistant sunscreen wearers: add the cleansing oil as a first cleanse.
What we'd skip: buying both the toner and the Probiotics essence on day one, since they overlap for most routines, and the scented originals if you have no reason to want lavender.
Where to buy, at Sleepy Hello prices checked October 2026:
Not across the whole line. The original toner, the scented 10 Hyaluronic Cream and the facial oil include lavender oil. The Sensitive toner, the unscented 10 Hyaluronic Cream, the 5 Ceramide cream, the Probiotics essence, the cleansing oil, the Centella gel cream and both sunscreens are sold as unscented or fragrance-free.
Is Haruharu Wonder Korean?
Yes, it is a Korean skincare brand. Its About page says "haruharu" means "day by day" in Korean and that the founder was born and raised in Seoul. The product pages describe the line's black rice as Korean-produced, and the brand's US site lists a regional office, Haruharu Wonder USA, Inc., in Dover, Delaware.
Is Haruharu Wonder vegan or cruelty-free?
Haruharu Wonder's About page describes its products as made with cruelty-free ingredients and shows Vegan Society, EVE Vegan and PETA logos, but it doesn't say which products hold each certification. Individual pages such as the 10 Hyaluronic Cream 90 ml (vegan and cruelty-free) and the Probiotics essence (vegan) state it directly.
Can you use the toner and the Probiotics essence together?
Yes: toner first, then essence, then cream, with sunscreen last in the morning. On oily skin, one of the two is usually enough.
Is the cleansing oil OK for acne-prone skin?
It's a short, simple formula: unscented, nine ingredients, and it turns into a milky emulsion with water so it rinses off. The product page also describes it as certified non-comedogenic, though it doesn't name the certifier. Rinse it well and follow with a gentle water-based cleanser.
Yes, for gentle hydration: start with the $16.99 Dive-In serum, add Dive-In Cream for dry skin, Soothing Cream for combination or Balanceful Cica for oily.
Yes, for simple, low-cost basics. Start with the $12.99 Dokdo Toner or $11.99 Cleanser; dry skin should step up to Dokdo Cream or Soybean Panthenol Cream.
Yes, for simple hydration. Start with Bean Essence for rough skin, Galactomyces for dullness or Soondy Centella for redness. Sizes and prices compared.
